Ping me when the Discovery Institute actually makes a discovery

It doesn't matter whether they discover anything.

It does matter that they don't discover anything--it shows they are a PR outfit, not a scientific organization. And it does matter that Dr. Gonzalez is a Senior Fellow there.

Have you read the Discovery Institute's Wedge Document?

That is as anti-science a document as you are likely to find. Two passages read as follows:

We are building on this momentum, broadening the wedge with a positive scientific alternative to materialistic scientific theories, which has come to be called the theory of intelligent design (ID). Design theory promises to reverse the stifling dominance of the materialist worldview, and to replace it with a science consonant with Christian and theistic convictions.

Governing Goals

Sorry, this is not science. This is apologetics (defense of religion).

So what? Evolutionists have similar documents. Ever read Dawkins and his crowd? Ever read the documents contained on the National Center for Science Education website? American Humanist Association? Skeptics Society? Infidels.org? Please! Either life is the result of chance or design. Science has a duty to explore both possibilities. And as the “Wedge” document points out, IDers seek to “provide a positive scientific alternative to materialistic scientific theories.” This is precisely what they should be doing, and science should be content with letting the chips fall where they may—as opposed to using government issued jackboots to crush all dissent.

That’s true, but completely irrelevant. Selling atheistic materialism is not science either, but it goes on daily. The truth should get equal time.

Then your problem is solved. Reduce the time spent pushing atheistic materialism in the class to zero, and equal time also becomes zero. Any intelligent design proponent would be happy with that.

  • To replace materialistic explanations with the theistic understanding that nature and hurnan beings are created by God.

Scientism and materialism are not science either. They are philosophies. The statement is a philosophical rejection of certain world-views. So your evaluation of the above statement as anti-science is absurd. The statement is not anti-science, it is explicitly anti materialist philosophy..

Or are people not allowed to hold to philosophies other than scientism or materialism?
