Thank you for the quotes. What I read here corroborates what I’ve understood about Fred Thompson, which in turn recommends others of the candidates for support, at this time.

Romney, Hunter and Tancredo come across as more conservative in their positions and emphases.

Potentially, Brownback and Huckabee, too.

And Romney is much, much more dynamic and charismatic.

I want a president who has the moral grounding to know that is not all we must strive for, even if it takes much effort and time.

Then, should he achieve the Republican nomination, can we expect you'll not vote for him?

Romney gave 150$ to Planned Parenthood in 1994, that money was probably spent on killing someone, and you want to tell me that he is more conservative than Fred...wow, just wow.

So Romney is all out against abortion now? So a Romney administration will ban abortion? Can you tell me where Romney stands on it? If you are a Romney shill and bashing Fred on abortion you better have a darn good reason for backing Romney on his flip flopped issue.

Yeah sounds like he would make a perfect Democrat in 2002.

At worst, we could discover that Fred is just as much a flaming liberal as Rudy, and I would still choose Fred because we would never have to see pictures of him in drag.

The truth, as so many have pointed out by now, is that Fred is most definitely a conservative. GO FRED!

In the spring of 2002 Romney completed a Planned Parenthood questionnaire. Signed by Romney and dated April 9, 2002, it contained these responses:

Do you support the substance of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade? YES

Do you support state funding of abortion services through Medicaid for low-income women? YES

In 1998 the FDA approved the first packaging of emergency contraception, also known as the “morning after pill.” Emergency contraception is a high dose combination of oral contraceptives that if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, can safely prevent a pregnancy from occurring. Do you support efforts to increase access to emergency contraception? YES

Romney also completed the questionnaire of the National Abortion Rights Action League, or NARAL (now called NARAL Pro-Choice America), with this statement:

“I respect and will protect a woman’s right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one. Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government’s. The truth is no candidate in the governor’s race in either party would deny women abortion rights. So let’s end an argument that does not exist and stop these cynical and divisive attacks that are made only for political gain.” - Mitt Romney

Oh? Just what specifically did you read that corroborated your understanding of Fred Thompson? What is that understanding of Fred Thompson? And what is it about him that recommends others instead of Fred Thompson?

Romney, Hunter and Tancredo come across as more conservative in their positions and emphases.

Hunter and Tancredo, perhaps. Again, read RatsDaws's post #27. Are you sure you want to include Romney? Huh?

These questions really beg clarification, based on the responses provided. I'm sure you'll want to educate us so we are more politically aware.

Here is the source to that info. http://www.weeklystandard.com/content/public/articles/000/000/013/222htyos.asp

Its hard to believe that a Romney-bot would criticize anyone for their abortion stance. Here is a question that unspun posed to me a while back.

Well, we’ll have to wait for unspun’s response. Judging by his post times, he keeps irregular hours. I’m awfully curious how he justifies his statements, based on what you’ve provided.

Thanks for the follow up links.

BS. You just exposed yourself as a hack.

Zero credibility score for you from here on out. You’ll have to change your moniker to get another chance but it won’t work because these issues have been vetted many times over here on FR. And the outcome is a big Barbara Streisand to hacks like you.

Some of us are not “flocking,” I would be happier with Brownback or Hunter as president. However, Thompson is both recognizeably conservative AND electable. Moreover, he has communication skills that will help PASS the needed legislation and blunt attacks against him.

There are minuses, his 1994 vote smart questionnaire, and his ties with Lamar “the shirt” Alexander. On the other hand, he is serious about Red China. All in all, I can live with him, and unlike Giuliani, he won’t change the character of the party.

Jihad and silly ad hominem attacks hardly substitute for a reasoned argument, Hostage.

And yes, Romney was "strongly" pro-abortion at one time. Saul of Tarsus was also strongly anti-Christian and John Newton was committedly pro-slavery. Ronald Reagan was also pro-abortion.

I'm more interested in the impact a candidate can have in the present and future, than a history of casual support. I'm also interested in a candidate that's "there" instead of one who seems to have been wheeled in by others, on a two-wheeled dolly, thanks.

God bless you this Lords Day, folks. Be sure to show the love in your heart to your mother.

My take is something like yours, though I'm not so sure about Thompson's communication (or leadership) skills. Thankfully, it's still a long nominaton process.

So Romney is going to ban abortion? Is he going to hand it over to the states? Is he going to over turn Roe vs. Wade?

What is Romney going to do? Do you have any qoutes as to what Romney now feels about abortion?
