Putin likens U.S. foreign policy to that of Third Reich

MOSCOW: President Vladimir Putin of Russia obliquely compared the foreign policy of the United States to the Third Reich in a speech Wednesday commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany, in an apparent escalation of anti-American rhetoric within the Russian government.

Putin did not specifically name the United States or NATO but used phrasing similar to that which he has used previously to criticize American foreign policy while making an analogy to Nazi Germany.

The comments marked the latest in a series of sharply worded Russian criticisms of the foreign policy of the Untied States - on Iraq, missile defense, NATO expansion and, broadly, the accusation that the United States has striven to single-handedly dominate world affairs.

Some political analysts see the new tone as a return to Cold War-style rhetoric by a country emboldened by petroleum wealth. But Russians say the sharper edge is a reflection of frustration that Russia's views, particularly its opposition to NATO expansion, have been ignored in the West.

To suggest that because some commie sympathizers were joining the Bolsheviks and infiltrating the local governments is a legitimate excuse for a 50 year Soviet occupation is ridiculous.==

Did I say something about legitimacy of “soviet occupation”? No. I just said that the “soviet occupation” was brought on Baltic states by actions of thier OWN communists not mythical “Russians”. You balts should look on yourself if you want to find the guilty of those 50 years of “occupation”. But you instead accquit yourselves and accuse “Russians”. It is only cause of all tensions which happens between us now.

So if you invited me in your house and I raped your wife, you can only blame yourself. ;)

No no no:). It is very inprecise metaphor.
Better this: you helped the criminal to take my house thinking that “smart” move will spare your house but the criminal got stronger and took your house too. Now you blame me instead of that criminal since he came to you from my house which he took first, conviniently ommiting that you helped him against me in first place.

I like my metaphor better. (just kidding) Your's is too complicated.

You and I both know that invited or not, Soviets would have taken Estonia anyway. The absence of the invitation did not stop them from invading Finland did it?

“The best friends of Russia are her army, fleet and aviation”.

And it's worst enemy is it's endless incessant paranoia.

You reread my mathaphor again pls. Did I say something about the “invitation” of any sort or kind? I just say that the commies came to you (Finland or Estonia) in 1940th just because you both (Finnland and Estonia) cooperated with them in 1920th. Rememeber Tartu “peace” treaty for example? Your both cooperation with commies in helping them to win power in Civil war aganst Russian nationalists (Whites). This actions payed you both back in 1940th when commeis decided to expand thier own empire - Soviet Union and include you into.

The worst enemies are those who speak that way as you did:). Because such speaking devoted just to mislead and disarm us:).
See NATO. Why and against whom it is expanding? Answer me honestly. I doubt that you can:).

NATO is expanding to provide security and stability. Just like it did in the 50 years it held the bad old Soviet Union at bay. It’s a defensive alliance. Stable Democracies who don’t feel threatened don’t provoke war with their neighbors. Maybe if Russia ever gets to that point you idiots will finally realize that.

I am confused. How is this cooperation? During the Independence War 1918-1920 Estonia with some help from Royal Navy and others kicked Bolsheviks out of the country. The peace treaty was signed to define borders and confirm independence.

What are you saying? We should have continued fighting all the way to Moscow?

“Defensive allience”? Talk it to Serbs. It is because of NATO, Russia needs the good armed forces.

Yeah. In 1920th your peace treaty with Bolshevicks fred thier hands and undermined the anti-Bolshevick army of general Yudenich. But for the estonian “blind” leaders in 1920 the most important was to “secure borders” with Bolshevicks. For this deal with Bolshevicks in 1920 you so did like, you payed in 1940. Then your own commies made another deal with Stalin which you didn’t like:).
So do not seek no guilty out of you. Look on yourselves first.

Reading this it looks like if Finns and Estonians would have kept pushing to the east, the Soviet Union, as we know it, would have not existed.

Oh, boy I wish.

Gotta go and work on my flux capacitor... ;)

I rather say that if Finns, Estonians, Poles helped White armies instead of Bolshevicks then Soviet Union never exsisted since Reds lost Civil war.

One intervention in 50 years, on their doorstep. I suggest YOU talk to ALL of Russia's neighbors who are clamoring to get INTO NATO as a way to protect themselves from the "interest" of Russia.

Yeah one but on the weak country. So the conclusion: In order to prevent any “peaceful” bombing form NATO one should have the good armed forces.
