EW YORK -- Mary and Cornelius Jefferson were turning in for the night last June 24 when they heard the deafening boom of a battering ram tearing the front door of their Bronx apartment from its hinges.
"They kept on banging until the whole door had splintered," said Mrs. Jefferson, 63. "I thought they were coming to rob us, coming to kill us."
When the door gave way, it was not robbers but police officers who burst in, armed with pistols and a search warrant. The warrant -- based on the word of a paid confidential informer with a criminal record -- told of a young Hispanic man who was selling cocaine from the apartment. Instead the police found a terrified couple in their 60s, living in a meticulous apartment where plastic slipcovers protect the sofas and diplomas and awards line the walls

So true. To expand on your thought, these "no knock" raids enshrine a policy that puts getting hold of the contraband as more important than the safety of the citizens whose homes are being invaded as well as the officers that execute these invasions.
Whoa, that's a scary idea.
.... because they get to seize and keep the assets. They are addicted.
Has anyone here ever seen statistics on how many police officers have been shot during a “no-knock” raid?
You could click on the link to the Cato Institute study earlier in the thread, and filter on that.
Keep in mind that only “paramilitary” raids make the database, not all no-knock raids.
I have friends on several SWAT teams and they tell me the tensions are highest with “no knock” raids. The regular patrol officers HATE domestic disturbance calls because of the high risk of injury to officers.
I’d be scared crap too if I was ordered to go on one of these midnight treasure hunts.
I’ll bet many cops would opt out, if they could. Of course, some also love this kind of stuff.
Thanks!
It's just as scary either way.
I just like seeing where my enemies are rather than having them behind my back.
Nope, It's the drugs. They think the hopheads will flush them down the potty.
Better to take the "Bill of Rights" away from everyone, than to let one doobie get wasted in the john or let one be wasted by a doobie.
Whoa, that’s a scary idea.
Actually it makes a lot of since ... if hitlery is in office at least there will be some opposition from the gop .
but if rudy gets in there and starts promoting abortion, gungrabing and gays ... then who would stand to oppose him?
Yeah, you said that before...I would much rather Fred Thompson as President, but failing that I sure don't want Hildabeast.
You’re welcome.
Oh, I think a lot of people would oppose him, but I see Fred Thompson as our next President, so it is all really a moot question.
I would rather see Duncan Hunter but I could accept Fred.
I would rather see Ron Paul than Hitlery, BUT... I would rather see Hitlery than than Rewwwwdy
LOL, I see we agree and disagree. I just for the life of me can’t see how you would want Hildabeast over anyone.
Libertarians (l) understand that outlawing a substance causes its value and price to increase a hundredfold on the black market. That brings organized crime into the, artificially created, lucrative illegal business.
Stop the War on Drugs and the amount of money the criminal charges will drop drastically - forcing them out of business.
All you have to do then, is create treatment programs and an advertising campaign to bring all substance abusers forward for treatment. They would be much more likely to seek and accept help without fear if imprisonment or worse. The drug problem would be solved within a year or two.
That probably will not happen because law enforcement agents, equipment suppliers, lobbyists, and politicians get wealthy and have lauded careers from a Drug War that they know must never be won or they will lose their government subsidized gravy train.
We have a War on Islamic Terrorists to fight, and this War on American Citizens only detracts from what should be our primary focus.
Yes. See this excellent site: http://www.cato.org/raidmap/
I’ve never understood why they couldn’t put a sewer tap in anyway.
“Im starting to rethink my position on the war on drugs. I hate drugs and currently support the drug war. However, is it really worth it to be trampling our civil liberties?”
I have done the same, as of very recently.
And, I have come to this conclusion; it’s NOT worth it.
