While this guy sounds like a jackass, these laws are on the books to assist flight attendants in deterring terrorists, not to help mend hurt feelings caused by an idiot who had too much to drink. If there was any jail time involved, as someone else suggested, this guy will win his appeal.

Were the flying imams arrested by the FBI? This guy sounds like a real jerk, but the FBI must have realized that he was not a Muslim, so they’re going to send him to jail.

Laws designed to assure the safety of passengers and that of the flight attendants were on the books long before 911.
A drunk can be obnoxious anywhere. Much more so among a captive audience at 36,000 feet.
