Talk Show Host Says He's Glad Radio Rival's Mother Is Dead

MILWAUKEE -- A former alderman and controversial radio talk show host said he's happy the mother of his radio rival is dead.

Michael McGee Sr. made the comments during his radio show on WNOV-AM Thursday morning. Charlie Sykes is a radio talk show host on WTMJ-AM. Sykes' mother, Katherine B. Sykes, died in a house fire Tuesday. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner said Thursday that Sykes died of smoke inhalation.

McGee's words quickly spread on the Internet as bloggers picked up the story. At least one radio host talked about it on his show Thursday afternoon.

McGee and Sykes have been publically battling for years, but even in the world of talk radio, some are saying the comments made are extreme.

"Mother Sykes, she dead. To me it's the vengeance of God. I ain't got no tears. Matter of fact a woman that would have a fool like that deserve whatever is coming her. She raised a sure enough idiot," McGee said on his radio show. "My instincts say Charlie Sykes killed his momma, cuz she live out in this big palace in Mequon all isolated. He got tired of waiting for her money."

McGee's comments came about 15 minutes into his show. He went on for about five minutes and then moved on to a different topic, but later in the show a caller asked about it.

"Mike McGee Senior," the caller began, "You really don't mean that, about your enemies families members being dead -- killed."

"Man, you don't think I mean that, man, you out of your mind," McGee replied.

WISN 12 News tried to contact McGee, management from WNOV-AM, and Charlie Sykes' radio station, WTMJ-AM, for comment, but no one returned the station's calls or messages.

An employee at WNOV-AM said they've received a lot of phone calls about McGee's comments and that most listeners are not happy about what was said.

McGee was previously suspended by WNOV-AM in 2004 after using an expletive on the air.

I’m originally from Milwaukee and Mike McGee, Sr, is clearly an idiot and a jerk. Always has been.

Charlie Sykes is an articulate class guy, and I highly recommend you tune onto his morning radio show if passing through Milwaukee. I believe it’s 620 on the AM dial.

I have seen this vile racist pig McGee on TV before. He is “black trash”. Yeah thats right, I said it. I have heard some of the most sickening racist things come out of his mouth. This man “HATES” white people with a passion and will look you in your eyes and tell you that. But he gets away with it time and time again. I wonder what would have happened if Sykes would have attacked a minitory in the same way (reverse the roles)? You better beleive that the rhyming reverends would be at the radio station calling for Sykes’s firing. Here’s a link:

“When you got evil like Charlie Sykes, I mean on any issue that fool is against the black community... it could be some young nigger spitting in the street...”

“All of them fools and Milwaukee as a whole — They hate a ni$$#@r. And they hate, they hate, they hate.”

OK, now let’s see if the rhyming reverends start marching in fornt of the studio with signs since calling for this man to be fired for using the word “nigger” on the air.

Talk show hosts should know how to talk at least.

I typed my question before scrolling down and reading everything. I tend to do that sometimes.

Gee, why am I NOT surprised he is white and also that NOTHING will happen and the media will IGNORE this glaringly obvious racist remark?!!!

One in the same. He also called for “necklacing” whitey & I think he was still an Alderman at the time.

Some parts of Wisconsin expect their representatives to be downright nutty.

> Know if Junior’s battle with the Tosa PD was ever resolved?<

He caused a small mini riot after he was arrested at a demonstration in front of the Wauwatosa PD. Someone in the crowd called McGee a racist. Image that!!! And the crowd reacted with violence.

After that the cowed Wauwatosa mayor posed for hugging pictures with McGee and started some kind of racial “task force” after an hour long meeting with him behind closed doors. She then went underground and you never heard from her again or anything about her task force for racial relations.

McGee was arrested in front of a blockbuster video store late at night after the store had closed. He was sitting in the parking lot with a girlfriend (this may or may not have been the pregnant girlfriend whose life he threatened after she took him to court)looking suspicious. A black employee of the store phoned a suspicious vehicle call into the police and they arrested McGee who of course never resists arrest and is always innocent. He then claimed police brutality of course and the black community rallied to his defense.

As far as I know, nothing happened with that case.

Everyone who took the time to post here should take a few extra seconds to file a complaint with the FCC.

The 14 rules from Charlie Sykes page at WTMJ:

Here's the audio of my discussion this morning of the Wimpification of America. A new book, "Generation Me," by Jean Twenge explains "Why today's young Americans are more confident, assertive, entitled -- and more miserable than ever before."

In a sense, my "Fourteen Rules Kids Won't Learn in School," are a specific antidote to the self-esteem, bubble-wrapping philosophy that created Generation Me. I am currently working on expanding the rules into a full-length book, that will probably include around 50 rules. Here are the original 14 I read on the air this morning:

1) Life is not fair. Get used to it. The average teenager uses the phrase "it’s not fair" 8.6 times a day. The kids got it from their parents who said it so often they decided they must be the most idealistic generation ever. When the parents started hearing it from their own kids, they realized rule #1.

2) The real world won’t care as much as your school does about your self-esteem. It’ll expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself. This may come as a shock. When inflated self-esteem meets reality most kids complain that it’s not fair. (See rule #1.)

3) Sorry, you won’t make $60,000 a year right out of high school. And you won’t be a vice president or have a car phone either. You may even have to wear a uniform that doesn’t have a Gap label.

4) If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn’t have tenure, so he tends to be a bit edgier. When you screw up, he’s not going to ask you how you FEEL about it.

5) Your school may have done away with winners and losers. Life hasn’t. In some schools, they’ll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. Failing grades have been abolished and class valedictorians scrapped, lest anyone’s feelings be hurt. Effort is as important as results. This, of course, bears not the slightest resemblance to anything in real life. See rules #1, 2, and 4.

6) Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping. They called it opportunity. They weren’t embarrassed making minimum wage either. They would have been embarrassed to sit around talking about American Idol all weekend.

7) Television is not real life. Your life is not a sitcom. Your problems will not all be solved in thirty minutes, minus time for commercials. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop to go to jobs.

8) Before you were born your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way paying your bills, cleaning up your room and listening to you tell them how idealistic you are. And by the way, before you save the rain forest from the blood sucking parasites of your parents’ generation, try delousing the closet in your bedroom.

9) Life is not divided into semesters. And you don’t get summers off. Not even Easter break. They expect you to show up every day. For 8 hours. And you don’t get a new life every 10 weeks. It just goes on and on. While we’re at it, few jobs are interested in fostering your self-expression or helping you find yourself. Fewer still lead to self-realization. See rules #1 and 2.

10) It’s not your parents fault. If you screw up you are responsible. This is the flip side of "It’s my life," and "You’re not the boss of me," and other eloquent proclamations of your generation. When you turn 18, it’s on your dime. Don’t whine about it or you’ll sound like a baby boomer.

11) Be nice to nerds. You may end up working for them. We all could.

12) Smoking does not make you look cool… It makes you look moronic. Next time you’re out cruising, watch an 11-year old with a butt in his mouth. That’s what you look like to anyone over 20. Ditto for "expressing yourself" with purple hair and/or pierced body parts.

13) You are not immortal. See rule #9. If you are under the impression that living fast, dying young, and leaving a beautiful corpse is romantic, you obviously haven’t seen one of your peers at room temperature lately.

14) Enjoy this while you can. Sure parents are a pain, school’s a bother, and life is depressing. Someday you’ll realize how wonderful it was to be a kid. Maybe you should start now.

That is not the radio station's phone number. It's the number of a private individual and should be removed. The correct number is 414-449-9668.

Thanks!

I checked the Milwaukee Journal site and saw no article on this, which doesn’t surprise me. The Journal editors, on the other hand, always seem so surprised that people are leaving Milwaukee for the ‘burbs. I mean, the city is so full of progressive thought, why would anyone think of leaving. Well, here is part of the answer. McGee, Jr., by the way, easily survived a recall this past election. If the citizens of Milwaukee want the McGees to be their spokesmen...fine. They should not be surprised as Milwaukee continues its slide into violence, crumbling infrastructures, dysfunctional schools and poverty. Some black Milwaukeeans are waking up...but not many.

I left the whole damn state. You'd be surprised at the number of ex-SE Wisconsin types running manufacturing firms here in the Dakotas.

The McGees are just emblematic of Milwaukee's slide from a great economic powerhouse to a urban socialistic cesspool.

BS. I'm a 40-ish parent of 6 kids and these are the best years of my life.
