Republican Presidential Candidate Debate #1 Reagan Library 05/03/07 - Official Discussion Thread
The debate will take place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, and will air live on MSNBC from 8:00 to 9:30 pm (ET) and stream live on MSNBC.com and politico.com and will include audience questions gathered on politico.com.
Thanks, will check it out. Would have been good to hear him articulate something on that subject tonight. But he may not have gotten an appropriate quesiton to do so.
Nite, TOL :)
The original intent version. Even after the passage of the 14th Amendment. The Fifth did not even apply to the separate and sovereign states in any fashion until 1898. Get over it.
Hunter quoting RWR I believe.
You’re so right about that... which doesn’t surprise! lol
Of them, Romney looked and sounded best i must say. I wish Duncan Hunter had some more face time, and he was a little choppy. Giuliani - hammered on the issues. McCain - looking old and kind of tired. Brownback, Huckabee - both decent. Thompson - struggling, Ron Paul - way out there. Tancredo really came across as one issue (immigration), and Gilmore - i dont really remember, think he did ok.
If I could seriously believe Romney changed his mind on abortion etc. and that he wasnt just flip-flopping for political gain i’d go with him. Otherwise I just hope Fred runs.
I’d stull much rather vote for Ron Paul than Rudy or McCain though.
Good! It looked like it had been hacked by the Rudy gang (since he had thousands of votes before the debate was even half-way over).
Will agree. He took the right position.
I watch tv or read the major papers and major magazines very little. I think they have turned into the likes of the Globe, Inquirer etc. They are strictly tablois news, there are very few real reporters anymore. On tv only readers from “the wire” and the papers and magazines report “the tv news” days late. I do not trust the American presstitutes.
And the winners were (IMO) in order:
Romney
Tancredo
Paul
I liked Romney for his articulate candor. I liked Tancredo for his stand on illegal immigration. I liked Paul for his stand on freedom for Americans.
Whatever JullieAnnie says is not relevent. Huckabee, Thompson, Gilmore, all good guys but not all that impressive. Brownback and Hunter were impressive, but not as impressive as my first three choices. McCain is a has been.
Again, just my initial impression from this poorly constructed “debate.”
Opinion subject to change with time and research.
In a word. Preparation.
Romney prepares for everything with the same intensity and focus that Muhammad Ali used to prepare for title fights. That's why Romney is worth a good fraction of a billion dollars. He didn't inherit that wealth (or only a small fraction of it). He earned it by turning around national retail chains like Domino's Pizza, Staples, and The Sports Authority and making them enormously profitable. He worked the same miracle at the Salt Lake Olympics without drawing a penny for himself in compensation.
Romney is not only brilliant and superbly well-educated--he executes his plans with matchless intensity and insight to form and inspire crack teams to do the impossible.
I believe Giuliani has become somewhat lazy in that he is convinced by his own hype that he can get by answering on his feet, extemporaneously, with minimal preparation. It doesn't work here. It won't work in the presidency.
While Giuliani is cruising on name recognition fumes alone, Romney is fighting the local delegate and grass roots battles with same focus and intensity that he has developed and nurtured over 30 years in the private and public sectors. It's an intimidating thing to witness.
Vote on Drudge:

Worth repeating! Everyone should vote.
Blame for the election of candidates rests with those who vote for them. I'll never vote for either one, or for Mitt Romney. I, unlike you, compare their record with their rhetoric.
I see merit in the Fair tax too. But I would be satisfied with anyone who intends to cut taxes and spending. I think there are many ways to have an improved (and lower) tax system. I’m glad he spoke up!
Wasting time asking questions about Rove and Clinton...what a joke of a moderator he was. And with the olberidiot spinning like a top....my guess is there will be strong backlash against both the spitter and the idiot. I already sent msnbc a nasty email.
Thompson underestimated the number of WIA by a factor of at least 8. You should find another candidate.
Sure it did. Solly, challee. You boo hah. No tickee no washee, constitution-wise.
