Fred Thompson, the former Republican senator from Tennessee who plays a prosecutor on televisions Law and Order and is watching his own popularity grow from his seat on the sidelines of a presidential campaign that he hasnt even joined yet, is making it clear what he makes of Democrats in the great Iraq war debate.
As far as the Democrats, they are adhering to the extent they can to the most left wing element of their base, Thompson said in an interview shown on the Fox News Channels Hannity and Colmes last night. You know, Moveon.org and those folks are running the Democratic party.
And they're taking extremist positions and doing extremist things, Thompson said. (Senate Majority Leader) Harry Reid is doing things that I think the American people are going to reject. They're as near to investing in defeat of their own country than anything I've ever seen, and I don't think the American people will forgive them for that. So, they're going through that exercise, and let's just let them go, let's just give them a little rope and see what they do.
And he had this to say about the Republican Partys own labeling of the defeatist Democrats in Congress: Our name-calling and harping on them right now is kind of wasted effort as far as I'm concerned.
Thompson says he will take his time in deciding whether to seek the Republican nomination for president, with polls showing that his name-recognition could provide him with an instant entrée to the race.

Didn’t have a “fred thompson” keyword.
“The best thing about Fred Thompson, IMO? He is not a career politician. He doesnt care about what history books say. His interest is in the state of this Union. I believe he has the honesty and integrity to lead the nation now and in the future. I think he might also be likeable enough and articulate enough to win over some folks.
I still dont know enough about him to be sure. But I like the fact that he is not falling all over himself to try and be noticed.”
He’s the anti-Clinton - both of em....not to mention a ton of other politicians. He doesn’t need to be President to validate himself.
I wish he would get an eye job or something....we don’t expect people to look their age anymore.
All kidding aside: you're doing a fine job there , mom. Even if you are a little slow. ;-)
PTTHHHHHHHH!!! :P
I do not see McCain & F. Thompson in the race campaigning against each other.
Not really. But you seem to enjoy that website so I bet you post on there too.
He gets credit from me for not getting involved in it yet, like most normal folks, even politically invested ones. :p
Those liberals are hilarious!! They actually think America voted FOR the demmies in the last election. They still don’t get that people voted AGAINST the Republican party—and now regret to the bottom of their hearts for doing so!
Gonna be a lot of angst in the lib world come the next presidential election, I daresay—especially since the best that they’ve got to offer isn’t worth scraping off of Fred’s shoe.
“Not really?”
Not “yes” or “no.”
LOL
LOL! I think you’re the winner!! Young children leave us all tired out with a smile on our face!
Fred isn't the only one who enjoys a good laugh. FReeper women are the best!
“Spoke too fast”?
“Didn’t express himself clearly”?
“Did not look healthy”?
I do not think we were watching the same interview. Are you sure you didn’t mistake Fred for Bill??
As for the health comment, he was referring to the fact that he would NOT be considering a run if his health was any kind of an issue—in fact, IIRC, he said it was a NON-issue as far as running for president. Don’t know how you put the spin on it that you did, perhaps something was lost in the translation? That was no slip. That was reassurance that this fine man is prepared to serve his country if called again.
I have to say I am a bit bemused at all these posts from different people referring to his age and looks, while downplaying his actual comments on various policies. Kind of shallow to me, but different strokes. [shrugs]
You saw alot of things millions did not see. First, I think you’re the only one that saw him on O’Reilly. Second, millions saw him on Hannity and Colmes say his health is not an issue. Third, millions heard him say it was his family that was most important including this campaign.
But perhaps you have an ability to see things that others don’t. Please share your extraordinary abilities of seeing things that no one else can see.
Give it a rest.
Bill=Sean. Sorry.
No.
areafiftyone is a rudyphile. He is on every Fred thread doing his best to create uncertainty and doubt. Been that way for months.
To be fair, other Freepers have been attacking his candidate but I haven’t seen any of them from the Fred group on Rudy threads. I do see Fredheads defend Fred on Fred threads and sometimes by counterattacking the attacker’s candidates.
I do.
Fred made it clear that he thinks there's "something special going on" and there is a time for the man and a man for the time, and those two points have converged for him. I believe he is truly heartened by the groundswell for him that he is seeing. If he's going to do it; he's going to do it for US! All of US, the country US.
I think he's a big enough man to campaign against a "friend" and take whatever the campaign may throw his way, and when all is said and done, pick up with his friend again.
