International ring forging Ottawa cheques, stealing massive sums from banks

Members of a sophisticated international crime group are using counterfeit City of Ottawa cheques to launder money and steal from banks.
The Sun learned yesterday that the Ottawa police, RCMP and FBI are involved in the international fraud investigation.
City auditor general Alain Lalonde is expected today to address in his latest report measures the city should be taking to avoid fraud.
The Sun was told the group may be counterfeiting city cheques and cashing them at banks across Canada and the United States for amounts as high as $125,000.
