I hate to say this, but like Bill Richardson, Haleys too fat to run for president. And he doesnt seem youthful enough. Both men have the credentials, but they dont have the charisma. Fred has the charisma in spades. Im 90% sure Im Fred Ready.
I was going to add "but Fred would make a better President", but I thought it'd be gratuitous.
I like Haley, and he probably deserves as much credit (as RNC Chairman) for 1994 as Newt, but I don't think he'd quite cut it as a Presidential candidate, either. I think he knows this, as he's repeatedly said he's not interested in running for President.
He'd make an interesting pick as a running mate for Fred Thompson. He's proven that he knows how to run a national campaign, and he's shown at least as much leadership in crisis as Rudy. However, the fact that Barbour and Thompson come from bordering states militates against the possibility of a Thompson/Barbour ticket.

Barbour would be a good Cheney style VP — 100% ready to step in if necessary, not a preener grooming himself to be the next president like Quayle, Gore, and Edwards. Not that there’s anything wrong with Dan Quayle, but they hung him with that heir apparent rap.
