U.S. House approves Iraq pullout date, despite likely veto

Only hours after General David Petraeus, the commander in Iraq, told lawmakers he needed more time to gauge the effectiveness of a troop buildup there, the House voted 218 to 208 Wednesday to pass a measure that sought the removal of most combat forces by next spring. Bush has said unequivocally and repeatedly that he will veto it.

Both houses make me sick. We taxpayers shell out an average of $165,200 for each one of the 435 members of the House and each of the 100 members of the Senate. MORE for speakers, majority leaders and committee chairs. We waste more per year on our useless congresscritters than we do in Iraq, and FOR WHAT? So they can cause our soldiers and also innocent civilians to die just to THEY can benefit politically.
