Odds are that Pat decided to volunteer and Kevin followed along to be part of the great adventure.
What I've seen and heard of him since then does not sugest much of a self starter.

(the story posted at #43 opens with "Kevin Tillman joined the Army with his brother Pat, (an Arizona Cardinal) in 2002..." It's got to be embarrassing to always be identified as the other guy's brother.)
