The freepers on the other thread used faulty physics. According to this picture, the gravitational force is only around 1.6 times that of Earth's. So, what's the formula for determining gravitational force based on mass and radius?

Any astronomy literate people here who can describe how they determine it has liquid water and how they plan on determining if it has life? Is it spectral analysis like they use to determine star makeup?

The surface gravity of a planet with density rho and radius r is given by
g_earth * rho/rho_earth * r/r_earth.

This is because g = G*M/r^2, and M = 4pi/3 * rho * r^3 .
