Amen.

This site is dying an ugly death, and it makes me very sad.

Actually, this site is showing more life than it has in years. Additionally, IMO, you were already sad.

I disagree. This site is going through surgery and will be stronger as a result of this.

FR’s not dying. It’s retrenching itself, and preparing for the battle of the next year and a half. It’ll be ugly, and it’ll be hard. But it’s necessary.

“This site is dying an ugly death, and it makes me very sad.”

I just don’t see that. I’ve seen conservative values blooming and others doing some soul searching in what principles their willing to negotiate. I’m seeing growth and renewed enthusiasm. I’ve lurked long enough that I think my perception is also reality.

Nonsense.

This isn't the first time we've had in-house battles.

It will pass.

FR is not dying in the least. People have said and thought that before during similar episodes.

JR is just defining in crystal clarity his position on this issue regarding Rudy.

Some do not like that position, some do not like how he went about it. But it is his site, and that clear definition is, IMHO, actually a good thing and something needed amongst the conservative base to put their collective foot down in abject opposition to a Rudy nomination.

But that is simple my opinion.

This is just my humble opinion but I don't see it as dying. I see it as a possible rebirth. The future of our country lies in the balance. Do you think rudy will lead this country in conservative causes or will he fling the WH doors open to let in liberal causes?

Where will the GOP then? The left have gone socialist and the right have turned left. Where does that leave conservatives? Out in the cold looking in.

Pushing a liberal on a conservative site is insanity. That's what the rudy supporters were doing to the detriment of this site.

Maybe FR is going through birthing pains right now and that's what you're seeing. Any woman who's given birth knows the pain, suffering and bloody mess involved in doing so. But when it's over, there's peace and something wonderful has been created. Don't be sad.

This country is standing on a precipice, does it fall into the black void of liberalism and socialism and get gobbled up like Europe or do we take a step back and say, not my country.

Electing rudy is the surest way of stepping off that cliff.

Mr Robinson is trying to pull us back from that edge. God bless him for it. He knows what he's doing, trust in him, have some faith. This site will not fold because some have left. They had a choice to make and they made it.

rant off

Actually no. It is re-organizing, downsizing, getting rid of excess fat. It will come out leaner and more fit to meet its purpose- to further conservative values, conservative candidates, and organize the conservative grassroots.

Being tough on terrorism does not make a conservative candidate. If that was the case Joe Liebermann could be regarded as a conservative. Atleast with old Joe you can be sure that he will be tough in the war on terror. Just because there is a "R" after the name does not make a conservative.

Those who left did not agree with the mission of this site... which is ok, but what they further tried to do is re-purpose this site for furthering liberals.

No it isn't. It's undergoing a healthy pruning. Pruning can be overdone, but that hasn't happened at FR yet. It only feels like death to the branches and twigs that are pruned. And there is life after pruning. The recently pruned have all gone to join different Internet groups where they are among folks just like themselves.

One website is a mass Rudy rally all day every day. Some other former FReepers, who have an exalted opinion of their own feeble, haphazard intelligence and who share a devout quasi-religious commitment to materialist fundamentalism, are clustered over over at another website where they can stroke each other into a state of blithering delirium.

Both of those sites comprise far narrower communities in an ideological sense than the FR community. They complain that FR has become rigid, intolerant, and ultra-orthodox but they completely overlook the smothering sameness and homogeneity of their own tiny groups.

The truth is, you can still find a wider range of opinions at FR than at any other comparable political website--especially alternate websites set up by disgruntled former FReepers. Jim Robinson has taken prudent measures to reorient FR to its original bearings that has required a handful of bannings.

That's healthy. Very healthy.
