He became much more conservative when he was POTUS and was representing the entire nation instead of liberal California.
NYC is a liberal bastion in this country as well. I don't believe a conservative could be elected there any more than in California.. then or now.
A lot of us remember more than a few years ago, and I’m glad you remember that too. It seems when we mention the truth about some things around here, especially surrounding Reagan, the hysterics have instant amnesia.
I remember Bob Dornan on “Tempo” screaming at the liberals calling in saying how much they hated “Reegan.” That was 1968. Reagan was no liberal. He ran as a Goldwater conservative against Pat Brown.
He was a man of the right from his days on “Death Valley Days.” You Giulianites always dream about your flawed little liberal as another Reagan. But you have your polarity reversed. You see Reagan as a liberal, and Giuliani as a conservative.
If anything, Reagan moved toward the middle during his presidency. He already had the right flank covered, and we trusted him. He was no liberal, not after 1964.
Complete nonsense.
AC—I dug up some of the original quotes by Reagan at the time the abortion bill passed in 1967 when he was governor of California. He was anything but liberal. Unfortunately, the law was interpreted over time much more liberally than it was intended. See my post for some of his quotes:
