You can call me a liberal all you want. Does not make it so. I have worked as a volunteer for every GOP President since and including Reagan. I have been involved with conservative organizations all of my adult life. Rudy is not YOUR choice, but he IS the choice of many conservatives. The reasons have been covered here on many threads. That is why he is running very strong at the moment. Rudy may not make it, but as of now, he’s the top dog. BTW - I predict that if Fred Thompson runs, he’ll end up on Rudy’s ticket. You heard it here first.:)
I think someone should ask Fred this question: "If Rudy Giuliani is the Republican nominee, will you support him?" If his answer is anything but "NO," he should immediately be disqualified for any consideration as a candidate. Same goes for the rest of the field.
Rudy is not the choice of Conservatives; he is the choice of many conservative Republicans. Big difference.
Conservatives who cross the line to vote R are in fact the true RINOs - 'Republicans in Name Only'.
Conservatives who stick to their principles don't have much hope within the Republican party. It is a center-right (slightly) coalition that supports a wide-range of government programs that violate basic Constitutional tenents.
JR is right to push FR to the right; it's called product differentiation. That being said, I think Republicans should be allowed to continue to post here in the off-chance that Conservatives might help push the partly slightly rightward.
It seems everyone has an opinion on Rudy Giuliani, so here’s mine. At present, I am supporting Giuliani as I believe he is the best of the candidates running. My main issues are the WOT, taxes, and illegal immigration. I believe Giuliani will be fine on WOT and taxes; immigration.... not so much. However, I do not see any of the other candidates ready to tackle illegal immigration, other than Tancredo.
If Fred Thompson or Newt Gingrich get in, I will seriously look at switching my support to them, however, that’s no guarantee. Does Thompson want to be President? And I’m not sure he’d be any better in solving the illegal problem than Giuliani.
