Breaking on CNN a few minutes ago.
1 plane down in neighborhood, status of pilot or occupants unknown at this time.
I’m not sure. I checked the bio I had on him and there isn’t any information on that. I’ve been wondering the same thing - and if he had kids.
Welcome aboard!
Late 70’s and no.
Sounds like a large (pelican?) bird strike?
No they don't. Ignorant people should be treated especially kind so they listen when you try to educate them. You must be a very pleasant person. Maybe you just don't know what the word means.
......and for the record....I’m not saying anyone in here was/is ignorant. I’m just going off what you said...and your use of the word.
Pukin, I hate to say it, but with every further post, you’ll be proving FreedomGuru’s point.
Go ahead—flame me too.
He was just giving his opinion. Who doesn’t around here? Probably a good debatable topic, another time.
Slat Man! Hey, you should be proud if you got those things working right. It was more of an art than mechanical I think. I have seen a lot of man hours put in on those things. You know the Blues made them inop.
No, I never saw that one. Saw one where he ejected into the deck but not the one you're talking about, sorry.
Where'd that happen? Looks like an F-18 painted up in "Top Gun" drag, with the third-world/Eastern-bloc camo pattern.
I saw them flying around during an airshow over Newport, Rhode Island, in 1970. I was in a duty company and couldn't go to town to watch, but we saw them moaning around -- heard them more than saw them, those F-4's literally moaned at lower power settings. Got a good look a few times as they were turning back toward the show area.
I've seen them a few times since, flying A-4's and F/A-18's. Never saw them flying F-14's. Didn't know they used them at all -- thought they transitioned from A-4's to F/A-18's? I could be wrong.
I had no idea there was anything worse than DU until I took a dip in that foul-smelling,sub-human swamp called HuffPo. I wish I could meet the vermin in person just once, though, so I could give them the good hard bitch slap they deserve, the filth.
The Blues never used the F-14.
I saw the Blue Angels at that 1970 air show. The venue was Quonset Point NAS. I have some slides of that show around somewhere. The F-4 was impressive and still is mighty fast on the deck.
Well said!
Indeed I am a very pleasant person, except when I'm dealing with ignorant, arrogant, obstinate, insolent people.
Indeed I do know what the word ignorant means. Perhaps a visit to the dictionary is in order for you for much needed edification.
And some wonder why the vast majority of reporters are held in such high contempt.
Incorrect. You obviously don’t know what happens to a bird that is withdrawn from the fleet and sent to the Blues. The amount of gear that is removed from the aircraft to lighten it up and render it a noncombat capable bird. Not to mention the requalifying that the pilots would have to undergo at Fallon to be cleared to deliver ordinance along with day and night carrier traps, etc. As only one example check into what happened in 1990 when then Major Chase Moseley USMC requested orders back to the FMF so he could participate in Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

I didn't mention the "Blues". You did. I was speaking of the US Air Force Thunderbirds. See post #362.
You may have some good ammo there for a bar discussion at the Miramar O'club, though. I'll keep that one in mind. Nothin' like being prepared for a likely episode of inter-service rivalry.
"In addition to their responsibilities as the official U.S. Air Force aerial demonstration team, the Thunderbirds are part of our combat force. If required, the team's personnel and aircraft can be rapidly integrated into a fighter unit at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. Since the aircraft are only slightly modified, they can be made combat-ready in less than 72 hours."
