The festering bad blood between movie-star exes Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger erupted Thursday when an angry phone message from Baldwin to his daughter was made public. On the recording, Baldwin can be heard berating his 11-year-old, Ireland, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig."
"You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being," he says, apparently upset that she did not answer her phone for a planned call.
"I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone."
He goes on to say that he plans to fly from New York to Los Angeles "for the day just to straighten you out on this issue."

Exactly what I was thinking. Once joint custody has been awarded, it's impossible to get the kid away from an abusive parent (short of taking the child and disappearing, which probably wasn't an option in this case).
A friend of my son's has to visit his drug-addicted father twice a month, in spite of the fact that the father has been arrested twice for possession since the divorce. The kid hates it, the mom went to court over it, but the joint custody and visitation rulings still apply.

You know, I have definitely said things to my children in anger that I wouldn’t want taped. Calling a 12 year old girl a pig, however, is inexcusable. The rest of it I could see a custodial parent saying to a child they have been completely responsible for. But it sounds like Alec is a weekend dad, he really should have more control over himself. All the kid did was not pick up the phone.

For a person who makes his entire living inside an industry that uses recorded sound every minute of every day, he is beyond stupid.

BS. Baldwin doesn’t go out of his way for anyone but himself. In a world of cellphones, how “out of your way” do you have to go to make a phone call to your kid? I wouldn’t want this person to ever be within physical contact with my kid ever again. Only thru taped messages, etc. He is out of control, and that kid wouldn’t stand a chace against him if he got physical to match his anger on the phone.

And why would they name the kid Ireland? Good thing the spnning globe didn’t stop at Niger - that would be difficult for introductions.
Having now heard the call (twice!) on Rush, I take back my earlier comments. This doesn’t strike me as a usual parent/child tiff, and the threatening tone Baldwin takes would make ME want to keep the girl as far away from him as possible.

I am now a committed convert to “same sex marriages” for SAG medmbers, Hollywood celebs and other assorted cretins.
No member of SAG should be permitted to marry a member of the opposite sex unless and until they are past child-bearing age. This stipulation must be enforced because these persons (SAG members) are unable to distinguish reality from make-believe and/or they are incapable of the most rudimentary character assessment.
It is in the public interest that such persons not procreate and fill our public places with dysfunctional, damaged children to become wards of the State.

Oh FGS - of course she is the victim. My observation is that she is very skinny and could already be suffering as a result of her hellish family life.

I have 9 grand-kids. 4 of which are females. two of them are similar in build to this poor child.
So true. I don't buy into psychobabble, but I've seen this too many times not to recognize it as a real phenomenon.
