FROM THE SENATE
Dismissal of U.S. Attorneys
Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales testifies before a Judiciary Cmte. hearing on the recent firing of eight U.S. Attorneys. Critics have questioned the motivation for the firing and the Atty. Gen.'s role in the process. The original hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, was post-
poned because of the Virginia Tech University shootings.

Sadly, Shumer’s remarks seem to be correct.

The Administration must have known the AG was going to get creamated by the Committee. It would have been merciful to fire him last week.

Those SOB congresscritters. They allow them in the hearings PURPOSELY to get their propaganda on the evening news. I despise them!

Possible Candidates for the next AG (obviously just personal speculation, but it may serve as a distraction from the horror of this hearing).

Larry Thompson 20%
Ted Olson 20%
Rudy Giuliani (LOL) 20%
Harriet Miers (aaaagh) 20%
Andy Card or another inept GWB crony 20%

Make John Bolton the new AG in a recess appointment, or Ann Coulter. That will teach them dems.

I agree! This was a bad decision by the administration (and Rove).

He should have been let go before this spiraled out of control.

Gonzo is a huge liability currently and a millstone around the neck of the White House.

For those not watching this worse than the a Friday the 13th movie. It is a bloodbath.

Be sure to watch the replay.

I am taking bets that the AG will not survive another 2 weeks in office

Inept GWB crony? Just like those inept GWB cronies got the US Supreme court to agree to abolish late term abortions. No other president did that. Yeah, those guys can’t do anything right.

MY 2 CENTS

As I stated in another thread weeks ago... in the end the world will know that political appointees sometimes get let go for political reasons.. its not prety when those individuals make a public spectacle of this well known fact.... AG made a HUGE and likely unrecoverable mistake by giving a "REASON" for firing someone that a "reason" is not required.... period.. and just my 2 cents..

Bingo. That's what I've been saying for weeks.

The Justice Department has made two stupid mistakes. The first was trying to concoct a reason for the firing that would play in the press. The second was in Alberto distancing himself from the decision.

Both have since been shown to be untrue, both give the impression that the firings were somehow improper or shameful and, worst of all, both were completely unnecessary.

That Fredo should be doing so poorly today is no surprise - he's bungled this from the very first day, manufacturing a real scandal out of a non-event and handing it to the Dims on a platter.

I couldn't watch. Tell me, did anyone bring up the Clinton firings?

Anyone, anyone?

Yes, both sides did.

Fredo should have hit the point hard, but didn’t.

I think Sessions brought up the Clinton firings.

Alberto Gonzales has been dreadful though. Embarassing is more like it.

This is not a jibe at anything other than his speaking and management skills. He just is coming across as incompetent. Does anybody think Ted Olsen would be this bad even without the month of prep time that Gonzo has had? He is embarassing himself and the president, and needs to resign. He is about to take another whacking now.

If he was an articulate conservative, he would survive this easily. He is neither of those things. He has embarassed me.

Check the definition of "crony"; Roberts and Alito don't qualify as cronies, though Miers certainly does.
