Southside Virginia Republicans split their support for the 2008 presidential nonimation bewteen Arizona Sen. John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, according to informal straw poll last week.
Both McCain and Giuliani received 22 percent of the vote taken on April 13 during an event sponsored by the Petersburg Republican Party.
Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore received 17 percent of the vote, as did former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney received 12 percent of the vote, while former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, California Congressman Duncan Hunter and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee all received 3 percent.
The straw poll took place at the second annual Lincoln-Douglass-Mahone dinner and silent auction in Petersburg. The 38 participants included Republicans from Dinwiddie, Hopewell, Colonial Heights and Chesterfield.
While Petersburg, as a jurisdiction, traditionally delivers the smallest overall percentage of GOP votes in the commonwealth, the fact is that one Republican vote in our city equals any other in Virginia. Moreover, guests from neighboring Southside Virginia cities and counties joined in the vote, explained Linas Kojelis, chairman of the Petersburg Republican Party.
John McCain is the only major declared candidate with anything approaching a consistent track record of conservatism. Too often this process is about feelings.
Welcome aboard! Thank you.
McCain is receiving dividends from his campaign’s organization efforts.
I really am exited for the debates, both Republican and Democrat. I think McCain will do very well and I think Edwards will make Hillary look bad.
Babykiller in by 8...fast.
McCain’s had a good couple of weeks. There is much to go after McCain about, but much to respect as well. I will never slam McCain, even though I don’t agree with him on everything. I’d certainly vote for him if it came to that.
Okay so the poll favors those two. Which Republicans are ahead?
McCain’s a lot of things, but a traitor he’s not. You’re slurring a guy who is giving unequivocal support to the Iraq War.
Oh I’m waiting for that one.
And since Rudy and McCane 'tied' with 22%, that means they each got EIGHT votes. EIGHT VOTES!!! And this is news???
I could take poll at a bar with more people and get 100% for Hunter or Fred Thompson. This 'poll' is useless spam.
And I sure hope you're ponying up BIG TIME in the FReepathon for eating all this bandwidth with your spam.
An aside, you 'lost' someone from your Rudy PING list yesterday...
To: writeblockThis is a conservative site. Buh bye troll.

Personally I'd heed the words of the 'BIG HE'.
WRONG!! JUST CHECKED MY PING LIST - HE/SHE WAS NEVER ON IT! SO YOUR TACTIC DIDN’T WORK!
AND if by chance you don’t believe me - check with the mods they can get a hold of my ping list from anytime.
The constant droll of “Rudy” polls is creating a backlash.
Oh by the way you should know that Straw polls especially in the South are very very small. Check the others out. They are not a large amount of people.
Thanks for posting this!
Condor51 busted by A51!
You are quite welcome!
I am “almost” willing to bet that Virginia will vote a majority for the rat that runs in ‘08.
LLS
I don’t know why they have to resort to such tactics.
