It seems to be part of our nature to feel that we live in an era separate and distinct from the past until something like the Virginia Tech killings forces us to face reality. Then, the horrors and atrocities of "the olden days" visit us again.
Periodically it has been decided, by the people who decide this sort of thing, that history as we know it is over. Or, at least, that things have changed so much that the lessons of the past no longer apply.
Though there are fewer and fewer people around today who remember it, the conflict that was officially ended by the signing of the Versailles Treaty in 1919 was known for several decades as The War to End All Wars.
World War II, however, required a rewriting of the history books. The Holocaust and similar genocides committed by the Soviets now make the reverie of the 20s and 30s a sad footnote.
Since then, history has ended several times, notably with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the disintegration of the Soviet Union. Once again there was the sense that, finally, we had moved beyond the need to think about people and regimes willing to murder for their own ruthless purposes...
Technology has made great leaps forward, but human nature and the fact that society still sometimes produces people like the killer at Virginia Tech has not changed...
What happened on the campus in Blacksburg, Va., was an awful reminder of the challenge ahead of us not just to secure the safety of our college campuses, but to secure all of the rest of our nation as well. Once upon a time, madmen needed armies to attack other nations. This is no longer the case.

Lets get this man elected
P-P-P-Ping!
Great point, Fred.
FRED BUMP.
I sure am glad he hasn’t announced...so he won’t have to be part of that debate that MSNBC is having with Sissy Chrissy Matthews as moderator.
I am NOT watching it...so I won’t miss Fred.
This man must run.
BTTT for Fred Thompson and thank you for the ping!!!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
It can’t be said enough, the only way this madman Cho gets stopped (once he gets going) is for someone else to shoot him. The police could not have responded faster than three minutes, at best. When they did respond, they hid behind trees and cars while wearing body armor. Properly armed civilians are the best deterrent to crime.
Not exactly. A lot of Liberals call evil good and good evil.
Excellent! It is kinda funny, but everytime I read quotes from him or read his essays, I can actually HEAR his voice in my head. :^)
And, no, I am not complaining.
It appears to me that his first step is a clarion call for vigilance from the nation
Citizens are being trained to be sheep. Just 1 person around there with a gun would have made all the difference in the world.
If you'd like to be a FRedHead let me or Howlin know.
CAUTION: This is a very high volume ping list. You may receive between 5 and 10 pings a day. If you'd rather not receive so many pings, let me know and I'll only ping you once a week.
Present, and reporting for duty, sir!
Was I the only one looking for him to say something about the need for Americans to have their Second Amendment rights affirmed so that this sort of thing can be nipped in the bud by armed citizens?

Enough is enough...sh$$ rolls down hill. Now the media gives this worthless evil person the stage to spread his vial words. They show his picture over and over, to the point of being inhuman to the families of the victims and the students that must pick up their lives. Its almost as though they believe we want that evil face in our homes.
Our country needs hardened leadership. We currently have a President that has led on the issue of terrorism, and yet look how the media has transformed Iraq into "Bush's" war. They dont want the term War on Terrorism in official government documents. They just won't believe that terror is among us, every day right under the horizon. We have got to bury political correctness and use common sense.
Senator Thompson will use that same common sense in tackling every issue, foreign and domestic. My heart beats with the expectation of his announcement. Our Country needs his strength and leadership. It certainly wouldn't hurt our current administration to have support from all of us as well as the next President. They are already friends and his opinion would affect decisions today.
God Bless Virginia Tech families and give them strength to go forward.
BTTT!
