Just heard anchorette report this on pMSNBC
Yes; that’s who it was. :-)
No, it’s OLD news. That video was on T.V. Monday and Tuesday.
You said — “I must say, that was an interesting response.”
Well, sometimes I surprise myself... :-)
I suppose you were actually referring to my response, since you did direct it to me.
I have to be very careful in following up on this, since it’s so easily misunderstood. In our culture, as we have it today (in what I have referred to elsewhere, as the “post-modern” culture and thinking) — we really have *no basis* as a society to say that that some other society’s culture and laws are bad and worse than ours — other than the fact that we don’t like it and we intend to *enforce* compliance with our laws (by force, no less). Other than that, we cannot say (with an even hand and a straight face) that our traditions and culture is any better and that they shouldn’t cover up their women and chop off hands (over there in those Islamic countries) — or that they should not have suicide bombers. [Like I said, this can easily be misunderstood...]
The reason why we can’t say that is “who is the authority?” Are *we* the authority for the world? I guess some would or might say so. But, that won’t hold up in other places in the world. The problem is — the rest of the world is in a post-modern culture, too — except for the Islamic world — and they are in their own worldview of Islam, which is radically different than the post-modern worldview.
That post-modern worldview says that everyone creates their own “truth” — or to put it another way, everyone creates their own morality and their own way of living that is right. We cannot say that someone else’s way is wrong and ours is right. All we can say is that we will live this way and they will live “that way” (the way they believe is right).
BUT, the Islamists don’t go for that post-modern way of looking at things. With them it’s *their way* is right — for *everyone* no matter whether the others believe it or not. And if they don’t believe it, we’ll simply cut off their heads and be done with it. In the end, *we* (the Islamists) will take over the whole world.
Between the “post-modern view” and the “Islamist view” — who do you think has the “power” in this situation? Well, it should clearly be seen that the Islamists have the *power* in this scenario that I’ve just described.
And since the problem is that the U.S. is also in the post-modern culture, it does not have the “high ground” to be able to resist the Islamists — other than trying to enforce our way through *raw power* and on no other basis. The problem with that is that the large group of “post-modernists” in our own society won’t let us do that. They will nix the idea. That group is mainly gathered in the Democratic Party and consists of liberals. And seeking to control strictly on the basis of *raw power* and nothing else, loses in the end, eventually.
That’s why people are always constructing some kind of “moral argument” for doing this or that — in order to give some “meaning” to our “force”. The problem with that, in the post-modern culture is that that moral argument holds no water, as everyone’s truth is subject to their own interpretation and can vary from person to person and from culture to culture. How can one culture (here in the U.S.) attempt to tell another culture in another part of the world (like Iraq or Iran or Syria or Saudi Arabia) that their way is not the best and is not good — when we believe in the “values” of post-modernism? You simply can’t. And that’s why many in other countries want to see the U.S. “go down” and no longer be able to insist on what it says is right.
That leaves only one real and *true basis* on which one *can speak* to these moral issues. That’s on the basis that there is a Creator God, that He spoke to us, by means of the Bible, the “Word of God” and that He is the One who is the *very definition* (in and of Himself) of right versus wrong. On *that basis alone* can one speak — in power — to anyone else and to any other culture. On no other basis can one do so.
The prerequisite for that (to be so) is that our Creator God *must* be real and not imagined. In other words, He cannot be a figment of our imagination, but must actually be that Creator God, who did create everything (as He says He did) and we *only exist* (in the first place and in continuing to exist) by His own power and continuing support. That’s the absolute prerequisite.
And that *being so* — then and only then — do we have “something to say” to the Jihadist and can say it with *absolute* and *unfailing* moral authority. And only on that basis can we defeat the false and ignorant and evil religion of Islam. Otherwise, and “without our Creator God” — we lose to the Jihadists, in the end.
So, it’s only then, with our Creator God, who is real and who did create us and everything we see in the universe and gave us His Word, the Bible — that we can say — to the Islamist and Jihadist — you’re religion is false; it is evil; it is Satanic; it is illegitimate and must be destroyed. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob says that and demands that. He is the One who has that authority. We don’t. And it’s on His authority that we say so — and not on our own authority, our own traditions or our own culture.
And so, that’s why I make those distinctions about “hate” and how it is only bad when it’s use and direction is used for evil — but it is good (for hate) when we also hate what God does (which is evil and sin). It’s on the basis of His authority, God’s authority that we can say that. And so, those are the distinctions regarding God, the Jihadist, hate, Cho, and us.
And so, no, the Jihadist is not insane when he follows *his worldview* perfectly and with planning. He is simply faithful to his religion and way of life — even when it is false and evil (false and evil on the basis of the Craeator God who made all of this, that is). But, the jihadist doesn’t believe this Creator God, but the false god of Islam, who is for murder, mayhem and destruction. And the postmodern culture really has no defense against that. Only the Creator God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has any defense to that.
Regards,
Star Traveler
Their leaders might. However, those they get to blow themselves up, along with innocents, and other non-combatants are filled with hate, anger, and are every bit as fanatically crazy as Cho.
#786. Actually no..., theyre not any more filled with hate than the FReepers were with Clinton and his shenanigans. In fact, Ive seen interviews of kids (in the Palestinian Authority areas, in Israel) who are simply filled with eagerness to demonstrate their love for Allah and to gain paradise
Uh, I was referring to crazy people that blow up themselves and innocent people.
I must say, that was an interesting response.
And so, no, the Jihadist is not insane when he follows *his worldview* perfectly and with planning.
Thanks for that....
I didn’t know of this site when she had to do the assignment. We were at a loss, my husband and me, and her, I spent hours searching all the databases provided on the high school site and googled it too for info on the homosexual stuff in the book. I almost gave up. Yep, the “come up on the raft, huck honey” and the fact they were naked most of the time, lol. I’m halfway intelligent when it comes to anything but the math and science courses, I always excelled at English courses, I have two Master degrees (not in the math or sciences) and this assignment literally threw me through a loop. I usually don’t have to help her or any of them with homework but this took hours and hours of my time. I was totally frustrated and I haven’t been a student in a long time. She’s in tears, my husband is ranting and raving about it, I’m looking at and reading so much online trying to find research to back up this, she’s on her computer trying to find info to support her dictated position, it was a nightmare. Finally, at about 2am, I gave her the “guts” of the piece, swayed it to what he wanted, and told her that this paper wasn’t going to mean anything 10 years down the road. It was the first time she needed so much of my help for a school assignment. She’s independent, does most of this and daily stuff on her own. This assignment threw us all out of whack. Most of the info I came up with all pointed to it not having any homosexual inferences but she had to argue the opposite.
I wish I had known of this place and could have received help - I would have loved going into the principal’s office armed with information. Fortunately, it turned out well for her. And a good lesson in that sometimes she’s going to have to suck it up and we’re going to have to help her find the research to avoid tears. But I really wish I had known of this site, I may have asked for help. I called every friend I have and none could help. I thought, with all of my degrees/background/education blah blah blah, why can’t I find enough info on this? It was so frustrating.
The assignment seemed so stupid to me but knowing her teacher from this year, and my own kid was adamant that I not cause a stir since she thought it would affect her grade, I let it go. Just like I let the comment on the other kid’s report (she doesn’t ask for help) go since she’s an A/B student so why should she ask for help when she obviously doesn’t need it?
You can bet I will post to you on the next English assignment I get can’t help them with :)
Ah, yes. I remember some of those . . . I first started lurking here in late 98 after Rush mentioned it on his show. I believe it was shortly after Lucianne bailed and started her own blog.
I suspect that the problem was Free Republic started growing by leaps and bounds, to the point that the moderators can't keep up anymore. Especially after RatherGate hit the news, this place is hugh and series. Everybody knows about FR and likes to stick his oar in. (somebody tell me what a beeber is, please! I've seen it a million times, but missed where it came from!) Didja notice lately how much less often the Viking Kitties get called out? I kinda miss the One Post Wonders that used to come by here.
In truth, FR became my favorite place to get news because it shows up in my browser in large, serifed fonts that I can read better than all the Alphabet Soup News locked and teeny-tiny sans-serif screen fonts. I also like the format MUCH better than, say, DU's. You have to be slightly nuts just to figure how to navigate that site. Unfortunately, most forums and blogs use that format. Thank God Jim Robinson sticks with a winner.
On the other hand, I noted on another thread recently an idea I really liked, an IGNORE button. What a wonderful Idea. Make it work so that I could filter out the weeds if I wanted to, and that could switch off if I want to be entertained, and on if I'm having a serious conversation. Probably too expensive to modify the system, though.
I will say, though, the Quality of the goobers has reached new nadirs, the Old goobers were much more entertaining. the latest batch are just irritating.
Yep, I wish we had an Ignore button here. :)
What we are hearing are the thoughts of the devil, as if he were on the cross, and not Christ. If the devil were crucified, what would he say? He would rage and mock his persecutors; he would want to inflict the same on everyone else, especially on the innocent, since he considers himself innocent, while the innocent, like Jesus, are his crucifiers. The devil would dwell on every detail of his own suffering with the intention of doing all to others many times over. He would invent sufferings, blame men for them, and plan the ways humanity would have to pay for each one. From this perspective, Cho's ravings become clear as day...
Do you know what it feels like to be spit on your face and have trash shoved down your throat? Do you know what it feels like to dig your own grave? Do you know what it feels like to have you throat slashed from ear to ear. To you know what it feels like to be torched alive? Do you know what it feels like to be humiliated and be impaled upon on a cross and left to bleed to death for your amusement? You had a hundred billion chances and ways to have avoided today, but you decided to spill my blood. Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off. Jesus loves crucifying me.
When my kiddo was in boarding school, one of her required summer reading books was something REALLY bizarre and she was having a problem with understanding the point of it. I always read the books she was required to read, when she read them, so that I could help her out, if she wanted to talk about them.
This book was not only not up to the usual excellent required list, but garbage. When we went up for parents weekend, I talked to the head of the English department about it ( she hadn't read the book and had taken someone word that it was "good" ) and after our talk, it was never on a reading list again. I was very pleasant and offhand about it, but got my points across.
That "she should come in for help" remark is what teachers write when they don't know what else to say. You did the right thing, by ignoring it.
Just wait until your children hit college....it gets worse!
Oh and a belated WELCOME TO FR! :-)
There are lots of Bible stories besides Hagar and Ishmael, that give one hope. Job, Jonah, Daniel in the lions' den, to name but a few in the OT.
But what was as revealing about the manifesto was the time and date the .pdf file was last modified: 7:24 a.m., April 16, minutes after he had shot and killed his first two victims, and nearly two hours before he went on his second rampage.
manifest mentions al qaeda
Their titles are varied and hard to match with their content: all of You, am al qaeda, anti terror, as time appr, blood of inno, congrad, could b victim. The rambling comments are those of an angry young man who felt persecuted, who felt that the world is against him, who felt he was a victim of personal terrorism.
thanks :) And I will definitely ask for help in any other assignments that give me nightmares and make me lose sleep. I have a Masters in History so I’m pretty good in that area but this English assignment was frustrating.
Yep, that comment still irks me but I let it go for now. The teacher couldn’t think of anything else to say and maybe he felt the need to say something. Maybe he thought I was going to get on his case because she went down a grade. There are some parents that bug the teachers to no end. I look at their grades on assignments and as long as the numbers add up, I won’t fight a grade.
Thanks again :)
Yes, I agree. He was some nasty piece of work; a real psychopath! He had just murdered two people and it hadn’t phased him in the least.
When it comes to lit, I'm your go to girl and I really am more than happy to lend a hand.
I think that more and more parents are demanding that their kids get spectacular grades. That's part of what's pushing all of this dumbing down and grade inflation. They don't care if the kids learn/retain anything, they just want to be able to day that their kiddos got straight As or are on the honor roll, or such. I guess that most teachers feel the pressure too and so you wind up with a dumb comment.
I have mentionned this on other threads but the police forces in the US need to change their policies and tactics when dealing with school shootings. The police in Montreal was forced to change everything following the School shootings at Polytechnique(14 females shot). An inquiry found that their tactics of securing the building and wait and see was totally inadequate and failed to protect the students(obviously). Anyway now the police in Montreal has a policy of charging the building and shooting on sight.
This proved extremely successful last fall when a gunman heavily armed entered Dawson College a downtown school(very crowded) at lunch time. The cops immediately ran in after the perp and shot him dead. Despite this extremely target rich environment there was only 1 victim,(girl shot at the entrance).
I don’t think the police forces in the US have really studied their tactics to deal with school shootings. They need to do so very quickly before the next carnage happens.
The clip that was shown over and over of the 300+lb Montgomery Co. deputy trying to run with his rifle (and gasping for air) was painful to watch.
Any freeper going to suggest that this is about Christian extremism? (They SHOULDN'T--he also criticized Christianity in his package).
What happened with the Ismail reports and Cho's supposed link to islamofascism? (rhetorical).
