Fred Phelps and his merry band of misanthropes at Westboro Baptist Church plan to picket the funerals of those killed in the Virginia Tech shootings, according to a message on their website:
"WBC will preach at the funerals of the Virginia Tech students killed on campus during a shooting rampage April 16, 2007. You describe this as monumental horror, but you know nothing of horror -- yet. Your bloody tyrant Bush says he is 'horrified' by it all. You know nothing of horror -- yet. Your true horror is coming. 'They shall also gird themselves with sackloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads' (Eze. 7:18).
Why did this happen, you ask? It's simple. Your military chose to shoot at the servants of God today, and all they got for their effort was terror. Then, the LORD your God sent a crazed madman to shoot at your children. Was God asleep while this took place? Was He on vacation? Of course not. He willed this to happen to punish you for assailing His servants."

I wasn’t sure about classifying it; the Admin Moderators can be twitchy. I figured word-of-mouth would suffice.
You know, I've sometimes wondered if this might not actually be the case. I wonder if Phelps and his "church" aren't really just a put-on by the gays, the atheists, or some other group that hates Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians while simultaneously not having a clue as to what Evangelicals and Fundamentalists actually think or how they would act. The whole Westboro "Baptist Church" shenanigans have a suspicious smell of "atheists trying to pass themselves off as Christians" and failing miserably because they actually believe their own ridiculous caricatures.
And it sounds like he doesn’t think “your military” is Christian at all, even the country.
This guy will deserve whatever he gets.
Phelps and his clan want to be threatened so they can sue and collect damages. That is their racket.
No. He needs no one to rent him a car, sell him gas, sell him food, give him a drink of water. In short, Virginians should decline to have any dealings with this nutjob. I hope someone meets him at the airport or the state line and accompanies him every step of the way. When he stops to buy gas or eat food, the businesses should be informed of who he is and what he’s up to.
For some reason...I think this section of southwest Virginia...is kinda like north Alabama or eastern Kentucky...and the Phelps gang will meet a reality that they really didn’t expect. The best thing to do is simply take Phelps guys out into the boonies of Virginia and tar them up real good. They will survive the experience but I doubt if any minister could ever talk them into another field trip. From what I hear....tar is fairly cheap these days. And it applies just like it did in the 1800s. And it don’t come off too well when it turns cooler.
Fred Phelps' funding comes from the taxpayers.
His modus operandi for years was staging offensive protests, getting arrested and then suing the police and municipal governments for infringing his free speech rights.
He has been living off judgments for over thirty years.
The goal of these protests is for the women and children he sends to be injured so he can sue and make more money.
He has never protested a military funeral in person, because he is a physical coward who is afraid of being injured.
The last adult male Phelps associate who protested a funeral had the living Phelps kicked out of him and spent months in a hospital.
So he sends out women and kids in the hopes that they will be injured badly enough to win another windfall judgment. Phelps, although disbarred for malfeasance, was once a very sharp lawyer.
If society does have these mass murderers to occasionally contend with, why oh why can’t they visit this bunch of kooks?????
Well, being from Southwest Virginia myself (and a Virginia Tech graduate as well), I know for a fact that the locals will NOT put up with Phelps and his rantings, especially if he tries to take it to the west of Blacksburg into the mountains, where he might run into more trouble than he’s counting on.
Love the Patriot Guard Riders! They escorted a bus of wounded soldiers from DFW airport through my town. It was an awesome sight to see! The whole town turned out just to watch the bus go by...we waited 2 hours for about 2 minutes of waving!

The beat down is what they want. A group of people between them and the mourners, with a major dose of ignoring them completely is what the doc calls for.
That was about as safe of a prediction as predicting that the Detroit Lions will not go to the next Super Bowl.
Can’t you just picture Mr. Born Fighting, Senator James “Psycho” Webb, pulling out his gun and busting a few caps in the *behinds* of these freaks? That would be a sight to see.
Now I know Phelps is possessed by a demon. All we need now is for a herd of swine nearby and a steep cliff.
