Killer's Note: 'You Caused Me to Do This'
ABC News ^ | 4/17/07

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:51:27 AM PDT by areafiftyone

April 17, 2007 — Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old student who killed 32 people and then himself yesterday, left a long and "disturbing" note in his dorm room at Virginia Tech, say law enforcement sources.

Sources have now described the note, which runs several pages, as beginning in the present tense and then shifting to the past tense. It contains rhetoric explaining Cho's actions and says, "You caused me to do this," the sources told ABC News.

Sources say Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.

Cho, born in South Korea, was a legal resident alien of the United States. He was a senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in English.

Sources tell ABC News Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9 millimeter handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a .22 caliber pistol, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, they said.

Authorities found the receipt for the 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. They say it also contained two knives and additional ammunition for the two guns.

Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.

Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.

Very weird coincidence I think. Unless the perp traveled to Turkey. On some other thread a picture taken in Indonesia shows a smiling fellow with a name almost identical to Cho’s. Could be our perp traveled to some muslim countries recently. Seems a long way to go to see a shrink.

He may not have traveled to Turkey, but he have had access to materials Ak has published. Exploring the site Turkish Assoc. of Psychopharmacology unfortunately revealed no publications by Ak. So, it is not clear by what path "Ismail Ak" could have come to be known by Cho.

Shortbread
* 1 cup butter
* 1 cup granulated sugar
* 3 cups all-purpose flour

PREPARATION:
Thoroughly cream sugar and butter. Add 2 1/2 cups of the flour and mix thoroughly. Turn out onto a surface floured with remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Knead dough until it cracks on surface. Roll out 1/4-inch thick and cut out with cutters.

You’re right. It’s one gun per 30-day period, but it’s routinely called the one-gun-per-month law.

He could very well have picked up Chistian characters as elements of his psychosis.

Except that Christian doctrine doesn't provide a pretext for mass murder, as Islamic doctrine does. Which comes first, the misanthrope or the Islamic believer? There have been about five or six cases of mass-murdering American jihadists in the last few years. Most were converts to Islam. Most would probably be described as disturbed individuals or loners -- or anti-social at the very least.

When a mass-murderer writes on his arm in red ink, "Ismail," there is reason to at least suspect that jihadic ideology played some part in this bloodbath.

Ismail, Ishmael, Izmail, Isma'il may refer to:

Ismail bin Jafar, the religious figure of which Ismaili Shiah Muslims follow and are named after.
Ishmael, son of Abraham, mentioned in both the Torah and the Qur'an
Izmail, a town in Ukraine
Isma'il Pasha (1830–1895), wali and khedive of Egypt, also known as Ismail the Magnificent
Ismail I, the founder of the Safavid dynasty
Ismail Samani, the Samanid amir
Mawlay Ismail Ibn Sharif of Morocco (1645/46-1727)

Just thought I’d mention it. A Washington Post article this morning says it was “Ismale Ax”.

Here's a sample of the nut's writings.

This is dreck, but it's not unlike anything produced in Hollywood these days. It's strange how a script that could appear on screen as a major motion picture could also qualify a student for psychiatric evaluation. Something is wrong here, and it ain't the English professor.

“The man” was keeping him down, I see. here he had two parents who worked their butt’s off so he and his sister could attend some of the best school’s around.

Why? Prestige? Status? Or just a better standard of living? Hopefully the latter, but ultimately even that is a poor decision. There's a correlation between a college degree and earning potential, but it's not necessarily a causal relationship. Personally, I could care less if my kids even go to college. I'm all for education, which is why I'm indifferent to schooling.

The words "Ismail Ax" were found inscribed on his arm in red ink, apparently a reference to his Xbox 360 gamertag.

Well, that would pretty much rule out the Islamic connection. But a few posts above someone posted a link to this, "The words 'Ismail Ax' were found inscribed on his arm in red ink, apparently a reference to his Xbox 360 gamertag."

Thank you. I’m going to try it. While I’m a pretty good baker, I seem to have no luck with cookies. But I’m going to try it, thanks!

Also, the Post article says that "Ismale Ax" was tattooed on his arm.

Yeah, but folks have pointed out that the similarly named fellow in Indonesia a. has a squarer jaw, and b. has posted an online denial of being the same person.

Ismail Ax on Cho Seung-Hui, and Cho Seung-Hoo aka Ismail are awfully coincidental, as is the fact that Ismail Ak works on the psychopharmacology of treatments for suicide and depression, but apparently they are coincidences.

Until they publish his 4 (or was it 8?) page suicide note (which one report indicated was signed Ismail Ax), and/or the history from his web browser and documents found on his computer, further pajama-media analyses of the matter stike me as failing to head the warning implicit in Umberto Eco’s novel Foucault’s Pendulum. (I won’t post a spoiler for the novel, but those who have read it know what I’m talking about.)

How would he know? Apparently he (the guy in the Indonesian photo—not the shooter) and other Koreans studying in Indonesia with him all took common Indonesian names for ease of use. In the US, Chinese students often adopt American names so they don’t need to perpetually correct their instructors’ and fellow students’ pronunciation.

You are terribly misinformed! Cho and his parents came to America when he was 8 years old ( he was 23 when he committed the crimes on Monday ) and all of them are legal, resident aliens.
