Va. Tech Gunman Named

By Michael Shear and Debbi Wilgoren Washington Post Staff Writers Tuesday, April 17, 2007; 9:36 AM

Virginia Tech officials today identified the Virginia Tech student who killed 32 people and then himself on the Blacksburg campus yesterday as 23-year-old Cho Seung-Hui of Centreville.

Cho was a South Korean native who had immigrated to this country, the university announced on its Web site this morning. He was a senior majoring in English, and lived in a dorm on campus, officials said.

I disagree, LEO’s routinely miss over half of all shots fired in ‘close quarters’.

The difference is that the police are usually shooting at one particular person while this guy was shooting into a crowd. Shoot at a classroom full of students is like shooting fish in a barrel - if you miss the one you were aiming for, you'll probably just hit another.

Howdy leadpenny. I hope all is well with you and your son. My son’s not been able to stay in contact as much since someone broke into his quarters and stole his laptop around 2.5 months ago. He finally replaced it with a cheapy he found at the local PX. They’ve been running a lot of night missions the past few weeks, so we haven’t been getting much word from him for that reason too. He’s sent some messages to his brother, but nothing to his parents for more than a week now.

I have a 2nd cousin and a nephew, both with the 82nd Airborne (but different units) that are slated to deploy to Iraq in June. My nephew will be going for his second tour. That will total five family members in Iraq at the same time. And, it appears that my son and nephew that are currently in Iraq will have their deployment home delayed by three months. So, we’re looking at November instead of August for their homecoming.

Let me know how things are with you.

No. My name is “Jeff” and “jeffers” is the first thing I came up with when registering.

A South Korean English major??? Nah, it doesn't pass the smell test.

He's been in the US for nearly 15 years. Why wouldn't he be an English major?

An excellent point worth pursuing. His bad judgment may well have contributed to the carnage.

Having said that, the inaction of the LEA’s sticks in my craw. Watching them was like watching South Park.

ISMAIL AX

He may have believed that Ishmaelused an axe to smash idols in a temple. It normally is attributed by Muslims to Abraham, but there is also a story about Abraham bringing his son into the temple at the same time.

People get excited about plane crashes too. Even through the death rate on the highway is (something like) a fully loaded 747 crashing every three days. Only mass death is interesting.

Here is some interesting information that I found on FOX.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the note included a rambling list of grievances that railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus. The paper also reported that Cho died with the words "Ismail Ax" in red ink on the inside of one of his arms.

Quoting an "investigative source," the newspaper said Cho had shown recent signs of violent, aberrant behavior, including setting a fire in a dorm room and allegedly stalking some women, and that he was taking medication for depression. The Tribune also reported that Cho's family runs a dry cleaning business and he has a sister who atatended Princeton University. Cho and his family came to the United States in 1992, when he was 8 years old.

Law enforcement officials told ABCNews.com that Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9mm handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a 22-caliber handgun, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, sources said.

Hmmm. Fair point...but if that was the case the fatalities would be much lower, given it was a 9mm. Firing randomly into the crowd...hard for me to see this number of fatalities.

Unless it was all headshots...which brings us back to this guys accuracy.

We’ll know more as the day progresses, and in the coming weeks.

this incident is blown way out of proportion, for political purposes of gun control.

AND because the victims are A-list.

Well, once someone is disabled by the first randomly aimed shot, a headshot becomes a tad easier.

There was a cell phone lying next to the killer’s body which belonged to a chinese student. That lead was chased before they identified this guy.

"could be Cho was X - South Korean military?" Yes.

Cho has been in the states since he was 8 years old though.

more likely is he went to see ex girlfriend, got really mad and shot her and the RA, went home and figured out he messed up, then decided to pick up his other gun, all the ammunition on hand and head over to engineering and go out in a blaze of noteriety.

Try searching on ‘Ishmael and Ax’ or Ibrahim and ax.
(Ismail/Ishmael, son of Ibrahim.)

There are stories in the Koran about Ibrahim using an ax — I haven’t quite found a good source yet.

Maybe the engineering rooms he looked into were too filled with other asians?

Maybe your thinking is racially motivated.
