I didn’t mean any disrepect to those involved so thanks for saying that or reading that in my post.
I don’t know anything about the Refuse to be a Victim course. I just have this extreme reaction to the whole victim mentality we seem to encourage in our society: like it’s a good thing to be a victim, or somehow noble, or something we should honor. As I was typing the post in question, I kept thinking about why we don’t fight back more, why we go along with/ follow/teach what experts say about not fighting back. I think if we fought back more, we’d see less of the criminals succeeding. It’s just my opinion and I don’t fault anyone for thinking differently. I’ve been a “victim” of an attempted assault and I fought back, refusing to be a “victim” and I thank heavens for my right to fight back, for being raised by parents who taught me to fight back. I’ve read so many wonderful posts on here and I tend to agree with many who take their own defense as a personal issue, not relying on anyone else to intervene on their behalf, or relying on the government to protect them. The government can’t do it all, we have to do some of it ourselves.
I agree with you... what has happened to fight back? My grandmother was 70+ when this guy tried to snatch her purse. She sucker punched him and laid him out cold, he was still out cold when the police arrived!
I’m not even saying to be armed... just fight back. If a few of those students had thrown a desk or two or rushed him, maybe the results would have been a little different. I know I sit here safe and sound in my own home, but I’d like to think I’d be a bit more of a fighter.
