I walked on campus while my son was at Scouts tonight. It was so empty. It was like a reverent silence. God informed me during the walk that evil exists in this world but not in the next. I’m not even sure I know what that means.

We had a beautiful sunset tonight. One of the best I have seen. There is light that permeates the darkness. Maybe we got a glimpse of Heaven to remind us of our true home.

What a moving and reassuring post of eternal truth and light on this dark day, Appy.

I just looked it up on CNN and they have his name. It’s Jamal Albarghouti. As he told Blitzer, he is Palestian and he was spent much of his youth in Saudi.

Might be a simple coincidence, but since Blitzer said his family was famous, the two “famous” Al Barghoutis (that’s how they spell it in the ME) are Marwan, who was head of Fatah and leader of some intifadas, and Mustafa, who is a Palestian politician. I wonder what his connection to them is, if any. He sure was in the right place at the right time to snap that video.

True. One group is held to a high standard and for the most part they achieve it. The other isn’t held to much of a standard and for the most part they achieve it.

I know President Bush wanted to extend his sympathy, but his Presser seemed to really come very quickly. IMHO, something is going to come out of this that isn’t going to be pretty.

He responded with a Presser more quickly on this than on 9/11.

Today VA Tech was a scary place and only 1 person initially had a gun. The shooting didn't stop until 100's of police descended on the campus! The 2nd amendment didn't place any limitations on where I can carry a firearm - people with your mindset did and they/you make us sitting ducks for the loonies who want to kill.

I don’t buy the “signal” hypothesis but a simple “success” message doesn’t seem outside the bounds of possibility. Impossible to differentiate from an innocent recording. If he was from a “well-known Palestinian family” then I think a run-through of his email records isn’t unreasonable.

Obviously, a person who is going to shoot 30 people, some execution style, isn't worried about if he is breaking concealed weapon laws. My point was your comparison to the military, where they are being highly trained to use these weapons.

I grew up on one. It would give me the willies if that group hadn't been through basic training and boot camp.

With that level of maturity and self discipline among the military armed, I've never felt (or been) safer in my life.

I stressed to my sons tonight (I know at the ages of 5, 7 and 11 I sure wasn’t being talked to about this sort of thing) I stressed to them, AGAIN, they have to always know that any of us could be called home at anytime, we can’t control that, but to always be prepared in their hearts and minds, because we will wait for each other in heaven. And everything will be alright there. Extra hugs from mom and some silent tears sitting with them in the dark for the heartbreak so many are and will feel.

We just never know when or where.

My feelings are surprisingly mixed. Of course I don't want people to die, but 3000 Americans have already been killed by illegal aliens alone. Plus I read one year ago they (stupidly) voted to ban guns on campus. In a Southern school a couple years ago (the name of the school escapes me) an African (not African-American, but a guy from Africa) offed the prof and was about to lay into the students when one returned from his car with his own legal piece. The foreigner dropped his gun real quick-like.

Anyway, along with all the soul searching, I see things just like this as inevitable results of liberal policies across the board.

Sorry to say, but things like this will toughen kids up, just like seeing that Nick Berg kid get his head sawed off. This is our world, and we need Reaganesque social and governmental values in order to survive in it. We'll arrive at those values, one way or another.
