While there obviously are pro-choice Republicans around, the GOP generally ranks as the pro-life party due to its presumed conservative roots. Conservatism sees intrinsic value in each individual - no matter the person's stage of development - and defends his or her right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Therefore, opposition to abortion serves as a conservative policy pillar.
But what about all that conservative talk in favor of individual choice and against government interfering in people's lives? Those conservative principles still stand tall, but abortion is no mere personal choice. The line must be drawn against snuffing out innocent human life. The first job of government is to protect such life.
Unfortunately, some New York Republicans have been anything but pro-life conservatives. That includes former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who not only seeks the Republican nod for president but has led the race in recent polls.
Based on his record running for and serving as mayor, it's fair to say Giuliani was not just pro-choice, but pro-abortion. He supported government funding of abortion, opposed a ban on the partial-birth abortion procedure and objected to parental notification before a minor could get an abortion.
And in April 2001 Giuliani sealed his pro-abortion credentials by speaking at the radical National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League's (NARAL) "Champions of Choice" lunch. He said it was "an honor to be here."

And the major differnece between that and a RIno Rudy win is? Not much I say.
Once is gag, more than that is potentially a problem. Believe me, I know. I worked closely with a powerful person who had this issue. When you couple it with the fact that he lived with two gay men, one of whom he kissed on the cheek every morning (or so reported here on FR), it raises serious questions about his fitness to be the leader of the free world. Downplay it all you want, but unless he’s had an honest psychological evaluation he is willing to make public, we’d be playing with fire.
given the rabid rudy-bots who have posted here, I am very tempted to not care. The issues have NOT been addresssed. Instead we get spin and fluff and told that any left wing position of Guiliani “does not matter”.
It makes Guiliani irrelevant. Since he will any like Hillary Clinton. (seriously a DOJ lawyer will appoint his doj palls for judges who are a pool of left wing believers, and yes that is personal experience)
What it boils down to is this
Candidate A and B BOTH hold NYC states of mind, electing EITHER ONE will achieve the IDENTICAL RESULT. Where is the choice? There is none.
Better a democrat with an energized oppposition than a leftist “Republican” who will get everything he wants.
Besides I hate to break it to some in the party but as of last November the tired old scare tactic of vote for the liberal corrupt rino or the rat wins is not working on more and more of us.
Thats an Italian thing. I think you are really reaching on this one.
I am an Italian. It is not an Italian thing to kiss a gay man of the cheek every morning. That’s crap. It’s not even done that often unless greeting family in America. You’re watching too many Mob movies.
Dont watch mob movies and have never seen a episode of the Sopranos so your insinuation is wrong. I have seen what Rudy has done first hand in NYC throughtout his career and doing a skit in a dress cannot squash all that.
Probably, but if you only get 1 vote and the choices are; a flaming liberal, a flaming liberal whose name has an R, and writing in a real conservative, I'll vote my conscience every time. Conservatives don't vote for liberals just because they claim to be Republican.
There’s a world of difference in being the Mayor of NY and being President of the United States. -
Rudy’s accomplishments in NYC are to be applauded. I take nothing away from him.
Sage advice from the politically fatuous. No doubt this will assuage the pain of the 'liberal corrupt rino's' allen, santorum, heyworth, harris, and talent. The '06 election proves that the socons don't have the political power to sway elections anymore, yet the political sophomores still can't figure it out.
Ross Perot tried the same tactics 15 years ago, and look what that got us.
If the Republican Party ingores its base--'08 will be a disaster. I wish them well, though with their NEW PARTY--as the energy, passion, enthusiasm and volunteer time that the base provides WILL be missing (TURNOUT DOES MATTER).
By morphing the Party into something unrecognizable (except to liberals)--the Party will deserve to lose. And they will lose big--as state and local candidates will suffer even more as the base goes 'elsewhere'.
Just look at the '06 Election--where 13 million votes were cast for Libertarian Party candidates (includes state, local, etc. elections). I submit that many of those were frustrated conservatives--frustrated with the continued movement to the LEFT. JulieAnnie will ACCELERATE THAT LEFTWARD movement--so even MORE will abandon the Party.
If you want to split the Party WIDE OPEN--JULIEANNIE IS JUST THE MAN FOR THE JOB!!
Yeah I guess only Governors make good Presidents.
Then why do you care who I vote for?
I’m no big fan of “Paddy B.” but I think he had it right here...
Buchanan said, “I just don’t think Rudy can do it. I may be wrong, but I’m not usually.” He added, “I’m telling you, as Giuliani — if he should get somehow the nomination, as he marches to the podium, the Republican Party explodes right in the convention hall. The Republican base cannot go along with Rudy Giuliani, his views on social and cultural and moral issue, the background, the record. The party would explode, Joe. It would come apart. You would have a third party candidate, and that would kill Rudy in the South.” [”Scarborough Country,” MSNBC, 11/14/06]
One thing about the whole issue did get my attention. The Inner Circle Dinner is an annual event in NY and while the net is replete with pictures of Giuliani in a variety of female attire, I have not been able to find a single picture of Lindsey, Beame, Koch, Dinkins or Bloomberg performing in drag at the Inner Circle Dinner.
It does strike as a bit strange that Giuliani found so many opportunities to dress in drag that have apparently eluded every other mayor of NYC.
If the JulieAnnie apologists think that the base will be giving a 'standing ovation' and 'cheering on' an acceptance speech by a,,,
liberal, pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-amnesty, pro-litigation big govt NY lawyer, and GAY RIGHTS CRUSADER--who also supports using OUR TAX money for public funding of abortion, and whose personal life is an ABSOLUTE TRAIN WRECK,,,,
then they are delusional!
