Thread 4

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD

Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanity’s dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.

J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18

The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.

Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

” Nasrallah warns gov’t not to storm camp “

Heard a passing comment on FNC yesterday something to the effect that Nasrallah had “issued a statement in support of the government”... With no details and no follow-up, so I didn’t bother to share it here....

Your story sounds more accurate - and ‘in character’....

Ukraine: thousands of soldiers move towards Kiev
KIEV - Several thousands of soldiers belonging to the troops of the ministry for the Interior, carried out by their commander, honest to president Viktor Iouchtchenko, move towards Kiev, in spite of the order of their minister, faithful to the Ukrainian government, affirmed Saturday the ministry.

“On May 26 (...) of the units of the interior, strong troops several thousands of people, took the road towards Kiev”, affirmed the ministry all while being said “worried” by this situation.

“The order on their displacement was given personally by the commander of the interior troops Olexandre Kikhtenko” close to the presidency, “in spite of the order of the Minister of Interior Department”, faithful to the government, underlines the official statement.

A person in charge for service of the interior troops contacted by AFP could not confirm these assertions. “We do not have this kind of information”, declared this person in charge.

BAGHDAD - A day after radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr resurfaced to end nearly four months in hiding and demand U.S. troops leave Iraq, American forces raided his Sadr City stronghold and killed five suspected militia fighters in air strikes Saturday.

U.S. and Iraqi forces called in the air strikes after a raid in which they captured a “suspected terrorist cell leader,” the U.S. military said in statement.

The statement claimed the captured man was “the suspected leader in a secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training.”

Interesting that Nasrallah and mookie both go into hiding and emerge at about the same time as powerful as before and making threats and spreading hate.

A 50 from across the valley aught to fix it though.

Not to worry — it happens all the time where two (or more) of us will glom onto the same piece of info simultaneously...

Just means that we’re pretty much in agreement as to what’s significant......

Good morning, Bahbah....

Pull up a stool and a cuppa —

Between the carryings-on in Lebanon and Gaza, and Mookie showing up to be a lightning rod, and a possible military coup in the Ukraine, this could be an uncharacteristically interesting weekend......

;~)
