Thread 4
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

28 die in Pakistan as clash erupts

Supporters of a party opposed to Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf carry a colleague wounded during a gun battle between two rival groups in Karachi. (AP / Shakil Adil)Karachi, Pakistan - A political crisis threatening President Gen. Pervez Musharraf exploded into violence Saturday when clashes between pro-government gunmen and opposition supporters killed at least 28 people and thwarted a major rally against military rule.
The violence in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, was the worst in a two-month crisis shaking the government under Musharraf, a vital U.S. ally who provoked the turmoil by ousting the head of the Supreme Court on March 9.
Shipping containers and immobilized trucks blocked streets, and men brandished rifles and handguns against a backdrop of burning cars and buses in the city of 15 million, a major port and home to Pakistan’s stock market.
The attacks trapped ousted Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry at the Karachi airport, unable to attend what organizers hoped to be the largest rally yet calling for Chaudhry’s reinstatement and for Musharraf to step down.
Musharraf loyalists insist that the president remains popular despite resentment of his alliance with the Bush administration against Islamic militants.
But simmering resentment has been unleashed by Musharraf’s removal of Chaudhry, who had a reputation for challenging government misdeeds. Critics accuse Musharraf of removing Chaudhry to protect the president’s plan to seek a new five-year term. The government maintains Chaudhry was ousted because he had abused his office.
Opposition members accused the pro-government Mutahida Qami Movement of launching the attacks, saying that as they attempted to greet Chaudhry at the airport, they were attacked by MQM members with batons and guns.
Officials said a security force of 15,000 was deployed in the city, but there was no sign of intervention in the violence.

Iran: Jailed American Reporter Is “Agent of the Zionists”
Dr. Haleh Esfandiari (left) and husband Shaul Bakhash
Serendip has the latest on Iranian-American journalist and regime sympathizer Dr. Haleh Esfandiari jailed this week in Iran:
She has been branded by the State-owned Newspaper, as the Agent of Zionists. She is also an ex-muslim who converted to judaism. This is starting to look really bad. According to Sharia, she could be killed for that alone. Sheema has more detailed info:
Apostasy in Islam is punishable by death. In a recent article in Keyhan (the link was referred by a friend) I read about Haleh Esfandiari being an ex-Muslim. Apparently she had converted to Judaism after marrying Shaul Bakhash (a renowned Iranian Zionist (exact word from the Keyhan article) who is currently teaching at a university in VA.) This means the Iranian regime can put Haleh Esfandiari to death because of converting to another religion. This is despite the fact that Dr. Esfandiari’s boss is a supporter of a talk with the murderer regime of Iran. Last but not least... Hossein Shariatmadari the head of Keyhan is a Jewish converter to Islam. His siblings if I recall correctly live in France and are strong supporters of the Zionist movement.

Hamas gunmen reportedly set up roadblocks on central roads and arrested many Fatah men.
A Fatah gunman has been shown on TV vowing to "shake the earth" in revenge for the actions by Hamas' men, whom he called pigs and monkeys.

Morning all - slow news day?
Good morning, Workerbee...
Just got back from a walmart run, but been lurking for an hour or so before then —
Slow news day, indeed, evidently......
Unless you count hyperventilation over an election that won’t take place for another year-and-a-half... (AT this pace, interest is gonna burn out way, way, way before the darned thing actually happens...)
Even the FR main board has degenerated from “mostly news of interest” to more than half “hate Rudy all the time” - to its, and our, detriment.......
I made it to work. I do miss good hard news also.
” I made it to work. “
Can I gather from this that you’re feeling somewhat better, then??
If so, that’s great!
(Feeling better at work is marginally better than feeling rotten at home...)
Same old thing, just tired, weak and brain foggy.
Here’s a tidbit with some meat to it — if true....

It couldn't have happened to nicer guy.
Good morning, Uncle Ike.
Do we have any idea who might succeed him if this is actually as serious as it sounds?
Workerbee, good to hear you are feeling up to going to work. We’re pulling for you.
