BOSTON Boston Mayor Tom Menino pledges to combat global warming by committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the city 80 percent by the year 2050.

Menino's short-term goal is to reduce Boston's emissions by seven percent over the next five years.

The mayor hopes to meet those goals by installing energy efficient heating systems in buildings throughout the city and by encouraging increased use of wind power as well as other measures.

Menino says Boston already is the region's largest municipal purchaser of renewable energy and biodiesel fuel made from vegetable material.

Mayor Menino should get his speech impediment fixed, who can understand anything he says?

I am getting so sick of these people.

I was talking to one of my lefty employees and told her that she should live as economically as I do. I don't do it to save the planet but I like to save money.

Her response to me was that it would be too uncomfortable.

So I said "You honestly believe that we are destroying the planet and the future for all of the children and you can't lower your thermostat?"

She said it was too inconvenient while calling me a Global warming denier. What a morally void person. They can't even step up to the plate for their own stupid causes, LOL!

The man caused global warming movement is dying. I have no doubt we are going through a warming cycle, but so what? My evidence their movement is dying? Are they attracting more and more people to their cause? No. Ever notice it’s the Hollywood celebrity or liberal politician or other Limousine liberals that seem to push this cause? You don’t see a middle class mom or a worker from the Iron Range in Minn getting behind this movement. You don’t see any Indian families getting behind this movement and we are big believers in Earth stewardship. When the people who are pushing this movement refuse to live the lifestyle they advocate for the rest of us, then you will never attract us “little people” to your cause

Hmmm... Is Menino thinking about imposing a tax/toll on cars entering the city? You know, to force more folks to ride, say, the Orange Line or the Red Line or a bus, where innocent bystanders get shot at or stabbed? Great idea, Mumbles! /s

LIberals like to salve their guilty consciences by forcing someone else to step up to the plate.

At least this mayor is talking about his own area of responsibility. Most of these GW fanatics want to make someone else do something. But I doubt that burning vegetable oil is any different than burning gasoline as to C02 output. It reduces dependance on foreign oil, though.

I agree with Mayor...he should tax the piss out of all those people in Boston and keep the ocean from flooding him.

Burning vegetable oil probably has a similar CO2 output to burning any petroleum fuel. Or as as Menino would put it “these seat oh too is simla.”

Using waste vegetable oil is certainly beneficial. Growing it strictly for fuel is at best carbon neutral if no petroleum fuels were used to plant/harvest/process the vegetable oil (very unlikely). Effectively the same as converting solar energy into mechanical energy via photosynthesis and then thermal energy.
