Snoop Dog already addressed this, he said when rappers refer to ho’s they MEAN ho’s, the fat one in the projects just laying in wait to take their money (his words). The problem with Imus was that he was talking about good college girls. Makes sense to me . . . not
Is it free speech if you work for someone else?
That is exactly why they should STFU... or more to the point, feel ashamed enough to do so.
Yep, the bad guys won one. I hate that.
“but if you owned your own business wouldn’t you want the right to fire an employee for what he may say to YOUR customers? Especially if something said made your customers/”advertisers” leave your business?”
If I had a Dj that worked for me and I had never before in their tenure with me reprimanded or suspended them for things they’d said on the air...unless it was an Opie and Anthony moment...my first reaction and action would not be to show them the door.
Warning and suspension first time...if they don’t learn...THEN I fire them.
But in either case I will not let some race baiting moron like Sharpton dictate my hiring policies to me.
Advertisers left The Simpsons and Married! With Children when conservatives deemed them offensive...and look how long those shows lasted.
They are even considered tame by todays standards.
Elliot In The Morning says things that offend me language wise on an hourly basis far more than Imus.
Selective hypocrisy indeed.
Stupid answer Mr. Tancredo!!!!!
Bye everyone, talk to you tomorrow.
As an employer that's your prerogative. But remember all your customers/"advertisers" are now gone. How long do you think you can keep your business open?
The First Amdnement doesn’t make that distinction. Why should I?
Free Speech is free speech.
You’re assuming that yjust because two or three sponosrs left...EVERYONE left. Same with the listeners.
I haven’t seen one report on listeners protesting calling for his ouster.
And of all the sponsors we’ve seen pull out...they were the MSNBC sponsors...nothing has been said about how many...IF any of the WFAN sponsors left.
They are two different groups but only one...the one that fits the DBM template on this issue are being talked about.
I am actually home for the first time in weeks. Lots of travel since Jan 1. Even spring break was travel (spousal unit to llev:"we never go any where.....")
Sorry I haven't been around the lounge. Say hello to all. I hope to stop by for a wet and cold one (no. not a dog's nose) should this job settle down again.

Radio is a different animal from “normal” work places.
There are limits for sure and things that must be adhered to according to the FCC.
But other than that...radio broadcasts are completely protected by the 1st Amendment.
Otherwise Randi Rhodes would be in jail right now for her broadcasts where she talked about and hinted about killing the President.
