April 11, 2007 - Media mogul Sumner Redstone says he's looking to his chief lieutenant, CBS Corp. chief executive Leslie Moonves, to do the right thing when it comes to deciding whether to fire Don Imus, the CBS Radio star shock jock now being whipsawed in a storm of racial controversy.
He'll make the ultimate decision. But I'm confident he will deal with it in an appropriate manner, Redstone, the chairman of CBS parent company Viacom Inc., said in a phone interview with NEWSWEEK from his Beverly Hills home . His comments come as MSNBC announced it is dropping its daily simulcast of the Imus in the Morning radio show, amid furor over Imus' racial slur against the Rutgers women basketball team and the news that major advertisers are withdrawing support for the show.
Redstone's remarks could pressure Moonves into firing Imus (do the right thing is an oblique commentand the title of a Spike Lee film).

Would set a precedent.. Really.. Les Moonbat AND Imus should be fired..
I think this is one of the scariest things I’ve ever witnessed.
This is real DANGER to free speech in this country; and the liberals are on a feeding frenzy.
Mr. Johnson who owns/owned BET called into MSNBC tonight to say that if only rappers would make good videos, he’d be glad to not run the trash.
I don’t particularly care for Don Imus’ politics or personal opinions, but this PC mob action is debatably more disturbing than his actual remarks. I mean, at this point, I’m half-expecting to see a grainy video pop up on the Internet of Imus getting his head sawed off with a steak knife by Al Roker, screaming “Allahu akbar!”
I think you are exactly right; this is damn dangerous.
And you can bet it won’t be another liberal they go after.
There’s a chill in the air...
Have you EVER seen anything like this?
And that’s why I’m confident that MSNBC will sentence Keith Olberman to the rack whilest submitting him to the humility reputed to befall King Edward II deep in the bowels of the MSNBC building. Keith will subsequently be hung, cut down before dead, and disemboweled while alive, and then quartered (the remains displayed publicly in the center of each of the four corners of the MSNBC empire).
Didn’t I hear that they were going to do the “right thing?”, er nevermind...
If they fire Imus for saying what he did, will they also drop the rap genre from all of their various incarnations? If not, why not?
You took the words right out of my mouth. It’s mob mentality spurred on by a handful of artful rabble-rousers who are playing on the emotions of a populace cowering in fear of wearing the scarlett letter of political incorrectness.
Was he wrong? Of course he was wrong? Does it require that he lose his livelihood? Shouldn’t the audience decide that by either listening or not listening? I have little or no respect for the guy, but what they’re doing to him is like watching a public stoning (but that’s probably coming next).
Newsweak caused more riots and deaths from their Koran article. Did they fire Isacoff?
I am starting to feel sorry for poor old Imus. At this point it is a piling on. Why don’t they just put him in a stockade and give him 40 lashes.
I am glad CBS has decided to go out of business. Or did CBS just turn their news department over to Mr. Limbaugh? That is about as right a thing as they could do.
Listen, Rutles, from what I have read, the quotes from Bernard and Imus were right out of a Spike Lee movie.
Bad taste? Sure, but the HELL is this about?
And are they coming for US next?
The sight of Al Franken being the voice of reason on LKL tonight should send TERROR through ever person on this board.
They are CRACKING down on anybody who doesn’t like them. Obama, Hillary, and Edwards — what do they have in common? Imus hates and mocks them all!
Nobody said a word about this until AFTER Friday’s show when somebody asked him if he’d ever have Hillary on his show and he said no, he wouldn’t.
My God, they are silencing everybody on TV and on this internet.
No, I can’t remember anything like this. The fact that it’s mandatory for Democratic presidential candidates to pour gasoline on the fire is really an amazing sight. I mean, how is Barack Obama qualified to call for this man’s termination? And why?
er... where’s the ACLU, by the way?
No, they’ll not fire Couric. All she and her producers did was lie to the public about the origin of ‘Katie’s notes’ and steal information from another writer without giving credit. It’s not like she called someone a nappy headed faggot, or anything like that.
You know..I was trying to sleep and kept digesting all the news from today. I turned on the TV and happened to turn on Glenn Beck on CNN Headline News. He’s discussing the pressure put on PBS and the documentary they WERE going to do about islamic moderates. HUGE pressure was coming from the Nation of Islam against this being seen..
This is really upsetting.
If CBS caves, it’s going to have really sickening consequnces.
Before the last election Dems were on there all the time and they were the recipients of Imus Time. I really think he did them a lot of good in humanizing them and helped them win the Congress.
See post #27.
While it is a fallacy to state that Imus didn’t do anything wrong because others are just as (if not more guilty), I don’t think that’s the argument being made.
I was appalled to see, the supposed Reverend, Jackson state that this issue has nothing to do with “forgiveness.” These people are all nappy haired-ho’s in my book: “Give me da baby Al, give me da baby! Quit hogging da baby Al! Let have some face time with da baby, Al!” - a la Shiela Jackson Lee and Al Sharpton in NO during the Katrina debacle.
All of these people are nothing but pontificating nappy ho’d pontificating bad hair-bastiges (akin to Cynthia - Where’s the U.S. flag on Mars - McKinney).
Well, I knew he was gone when Al Rokker made such a big deal out of it yesterday.
I hope and pray that Imus goes to satellite and blows the whistles on all the hypocrites.
How much he feel tonight, with all the people he’s coddles and let on his show for all these years cutting his throat.
If it didn’t suck so much — and scare the living hell out of me — I’d be laughing at the fact that they’re willing to sacrifice one of their own.
But leaving aside what a crude man he is, he has BEEN like this for years; MSNBC had to know what he’s been saying; where the hell has Dan Abrams been for the last year?
And watching Keith Olbermann salivating over this news, after admitting he had told MSNBC to fire him — like HE is some paragon of viture — actually showing pictures of Rush and Savage and Bootz to Jesse Jackson, saying, “What about these guys, are you going after them, too?” — I was left to wonder exactly how clueless KO is.
Imus’ ratings are DOUBLE the combined ratings of ALL the other shows on MSNBC; he is the ONE who brings in the $$ to pay those other fools; does he now realize the Golden Goose is gone and they’ll be turning the lights out there soon?
And where is Matthews? Anybody else notice he ALWAYS takes a vacation day when something like this comes up?
Can you tell I am raging? I babysat my grandkids tonight and didn’t have access to a computer.....so I’m unloading on you!
Agreed. How stupid can they be?
That’s why it doesn’t make any sense.
That’s what I can buy into the theory that this came from Hillary because he openly mocks her and anybody who supports her.
Friday he said he’d never have her on his show.
And here we are.
