Double Standard for Don Imus?
Fox News ^ | April 10, 2007 | Angela McGlowan

Posted on 04/10/2007 6:47:24 PM PDT by redstateone

“There is no doubt that Don Imus was wrong and should be held accountable,” says McGlowan. “But what of our own people? Gangster rappers and others use this language every day. To not hold those people accountable as well would be a double-standard. So if Sharpton is going to ask Imus to step down and call for a boycott of Imus’ show, then he should boycott all radio stations playing gangster rap.”

I’m really disappointed in Imus on this.

Though I don’t find much in what he says that I can agree with, he always struck me as somebody with some backbone, some crust.

He might at least ask Mr. Sharpton “Who does more harm? The lame old white guy doing radio shtick, or your own young men, preaching these same things and being glorified by even those who should take offense?”

Sharpton is noteworthy for having maintained a pattern of heavy criticism against violent rap music and the whole hip-hop culture.

CBS and NBC are noteworthy for not criticizing violent rap and the hip-hop culture... they encourage it. Imus, Al, and Jesse are all shakedown artists, but Imus tends to shakedown people for legitimate causes.

Double Standard? I didn’t know there was a standard anymore.

Last week TRUMP asked Imus to have the HildaBeast on his show - and he refused several times.

Who owns sharpton -- Obama or Hillary? I believe Hill's camp saw an opportunity and it is payback time a la clinton.

Laura walked off ?

Yup, Larry Elder and the other guy weren't letting her get a word in edgewise as they were trying to shout each other down, and it was obvious that she was very frustrated at not being able to make her points. Hannity and Colmes were completely oblivious, and Colmes even made fun of her walking off when they came back from break (said she was serving a 2-week H&C suspension)

I thought she was just joking - but when the show resumed, she was gone.

So long as the people making money on Imus keep using this approach of degrading culture for their profits, there will be a market for more Imuses. The real bigots are the corporate heads pissing on our nation to make their billions. It’s not surprising when you find out the Marriott's make a hundred-million annually by pumping porn into their hotels.

ABC CBS Jackson have little excuse ~ Sharpton, improbable as it may seem, gets off the hook on this one.

Remember back to the Democrat primary debates 3 years back ~ Sharpton was the intelligent one! Made the others look like thugs.

CBS is not known for having a high intergity when it comes to broadcast journalism either. It was a despicable act when false reports were directed at Bush and potentially could have thrown a presidential campaign. But since it was an attack on Bush, CBS got off the hook with a little shakeup of personnel.

But the Little guy Imus is getting tarred and feathered for making a regrettable statement using language that is all too common in some cultures, but not allowed to be spoken by others. And then there is the rest of the story that has probably been forgotten that lead him to say what he said.

Yeah, a double standard for sure.

Hey, look, this apology business is a two way street. For example I'm really sorry all the Democrat politicians are scum.

I'm also sorry for anyone who ever felt he or she was offended by a Republican.

So there is a double standard for Imus, what else is new? He showed weakness and caved, so now the usual crowd is on him like a pack of rabid dogs.

I might actually feel some pity for the guy if I didn't know that he would be the first to pile on if it was someone else in his place, especially if that person ever voiced conservative or Republican ideas. Now he gets a two week vacation as punishment. Ouch, that's hurts!

She's got a friggen radio show. Let her score points there.

Al Greasy Hair Sharpton and Jesse Bulging Eyes Jackson are two of the most corrupt and racist people in this country. A white person should not be punished for saying something that blacks can say with impunity. Imus may have made some real ignorant comments but he didn’t say anything worse than most rappers.

Me, too.

I saw Laura on there...but, I was on the phone, so I had it muted.

I must have missed the part when she walked off...but, boy I didn’t miss one of the parts with Leo Terrell...what a whiney, whiney man!!

I’ll have to watch the replay too!

We’re watching a movie and decided to forego Hannity and TIVO Greta.

Thanks. Well, good for Laura. H & C gets too crazy sometimes.

Too true. There are lots of times (and not just on H&C) when I think the producer should just cut the mic on whoever is going out-of-control and let the other person get a few words in. But doing so doesn't make for good TV.

I'm not. It's no fault of mine they're all left winged moonbats.
