Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!
.
Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and we will try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let us know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,
Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
I have been watching...just now got to my computer.
I am listening to Petraeus on C-span 3...I have Byrd muted.
No need to hear the same speech for the 20th time about how Bush lied...as he lies about what Bush really has said.
Bah...Landrieu makes me sick to listen to her...she was up the other day complaining about money for “first responders”...I have news for her...the first responders in New Orleans (read NAGIN)...let those people down by not using those BUSES!!!
I find it interesting how the Dems are USING both Petraeus AND the ISG in their attempts to shape the debate...when we ALL know, they are only cherry picking from both what Petraeus has said AND what the ISG said.
Brownback up sounding like he was just dropped in from outer space saying HE wants Federalism and just to TELL the Iraqs to split up...he and Biden need to go back to watching cartoons.
dang, was opining on another stand alone thread,
Hey you old coot .. Congress does not have authority to run the military
If you hate the war .. then cut off the damn funding

McCain calls for Gonzo to resign....he has felt that way “for a long time, but didn’t say anything because I wasn’t asked”...
Real strong guy there....doesn’t he see that what HE just did is what the DEMS would do to HIS people IF he won the Presidency???
Tell me how much of a joke is it that they stuck the Minimum Wage increase into the Conference report????
BINGO!
and thank goodness I have to leave for school now because this old coot has me yelling .. grrrr
They did it because they know the Prsident will veto the bill and then they can blame it on Bush
It's all for PR
LOL...I didn’t know there was a stand alone thread..I am so used to coming to this thread.
I just saw them discussing how much time is left...and someone said 53 minutes.
I thought they were going to debate this all day...why so short of time??
get the vote out quick so it is in tonight’s debate fodder prepped by the drive by media
Oh...good grief, now we have Patty Obama Mama Murry up talking about New Orleans...sheesh
Liebermann is giving a speech for the decades
It is so easy to point out the insanities in this proposal, you have to wonder why it took so long, but Liberman is getting the job done.
man Liebermann just threw a trot line full of hooks on the democrats and I mean a a bunch. Then he backed up each point book chapter and verse.
I am listening to Petraeus still...but I have closed captioning on Lieberman’s speech.
Petraeus is talking about how there are cities where life is going on more or less like here...with soccer fields getting watered...people eating out at restaurants.
He said these visions are so foreign to Americans because all they see is the bombings on TV every night.
btw.as a trained mktg eye.Liebermann is WAY less nasal
in his passion than when seated opposite a camera
They are going to vote at 12:45 ET.
I have no idea why...unless they need to get going on yet another LONG weekend!!
Here comes Mr. Maudlin.
Oh..goody, Durbin is going to give sob stories of injured and killed troops.
Would these be the same troops that you called torturers, DICK????
Rmember, tonight is the first democrat debate, aired on the notorious MSNBC; Hillary, Barrack, Biden et al must have time to prepare for that appearance this evening. Thus, the early vote. Just guessing, but that would be my take.
