Senate & House Coverage -- (April, 2007)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | April, 2007

Thank you, OXENinFLA for putting together the below comments and links!

.

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and we will try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let us know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,

Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats

And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Thanks for that article, sleuth.

I wouldn’t sign that thing either. It’s a power grab and a recipe for trouble making.

This should be interesting.

“Sen. DeMint, joined by Senators Chambliss, Coburn, Cornyn, and Enzi, has written a letter to the Senate leadership announcing his intention to seek unanimous consent on April 17 to enact S.Res.123, the Senate earmark disclosure rule. As Mark Tapscott has reported, DeMint previously did so on March 29, before the Easter recess, but was rebuffed by the Dems, with the ethically-challenged Sen. Menendez voicing the objection.

The legislation is bottled up in a House-Senate conference. DeMint proposes that the Senate simply go ahead and unilaterally apply the earmark disclosure rule to its own work. He points to recent developments that call into question the commitment to “shine light on the congressional favor factory.” For example, the Fiscal year 2008 earmark solicitation form circulated by the Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development did not require the disclosure of the name or address of the intended earmark recipient, and did not require certification that the requesting Senator has no financial interest in the earmark. The earmark solicitation forms circulated by the Appropriations Subcommittees on Interior and Agriculture were similarly defective.”

That will be interesting to see.

Sen. DeMint is going to be a major thorn in Reid’s side.. I like him more every day.

I don’t know if either of you saw Neil Cavuto’s show...but he had some lady judge on to discuss the Congress’ possible legislation to have the FED govt to bailout people that have gotten into mortgages that they now can’t pay.

I think it is Schumer that is pushing this..

Anyway, Neil was saying that he feels bad for people that are getting foreclosed on...but, it is “consumer beware”...and, he asked her what about “personal responsibility...and people living with consequences of their own decisions”..

That lady JUDGE actually said that she is it is the FED governments’ JOB to bail these people out!!!!

Neil was as shocked as I was...but even when he pointed out the slippery slope...and how faulty her reasoning is...she would NOT back down.

jeeez louise...I am getting more and more afraid of Democrats every day.

Oh boy!!!

Well, I have some credit card debt, so why shouldn’t all of you other taxpayers bail me out.

Yes, it is Schumer pushing this incredibly bad idea.

WOW....Sen. Rockefeller is up on the Senate floor..saying he is “FURIOUS, double crossed”....

He said that he and Bond had worked for weeks for the Manager’s bill for the Intelligence Committee..they “both gave up things they wanted”...

But, “word came down from the White House through the Minority leader that today’s vote was a TEST...a test of loyalty to the President”

“this act of cynicism...this act of PARTISAN POLITICS..is digraceful..the President and the minority have put POLITICS over NATIONAL SECURITY”

ROCKY is shocked!!!!

Oh..dear...he is using the shooting today....to be mad that this happened today...and what IF they needed intelligence to help that...but because this bill didn’t get passed..maybe something like that would be stopped..blah, blah.

Durbin asked to speak..Rocky wouldn’t let him....LOL

He did say that 3 Republicans “didn’t go along with this political game”...but he wouldn’t name them...he wanted to spare them embarrassment???

Let me guess.. Hagel..Bond (it was his bill)..and Specter or Warner.

Did you just hear Reid going off on Rove and Cheney??

He said that Cheney has spent 6 years messing with the intelligence...

He was throwing LOTS of accusations around...

Bond has been sucked in by Rockefeller I am afraid.

He took over for Sen. Roberts..when they became the minority..and I am afraid he is trying to “get along” too much with Rocky.

We will see...

He is mad at Reid and Rocky’s accusations..but he wants the bill....

Oh..I forgot to tell you earlier today...

When Reid opened up the Senate..and said that the cloture vote would be this evening..mentioned that the Managers bill would be available this afternoon...but, “not before you have to submit amendments....Senators won’t be able to read it before then”

I was SHOCKED when I heard that today...but with the shooting, I didn’t post about it...(plus FR was so slow)

Okay, Bond did okay.

They want some amendments and Reid is trying to stop them. Bond is on board with the amendments.

Denies suggestions that the WH is giving orders.
