They voluntarily went out of their way to move into an area that was expressly devoid of children, voluntarily signed a contract with this HOA that
they supported the policy, and are now surprised that they are getting the boot for violating their oath?
Their good deed does not nullify the hypocrisy, and the HOA has a contractual obligation to honor its agreements with the other residents. Don't like it? Pass legislation that "adult-only" communities are illegal.

No, they are not suprised, and theydo want to leave. They want their granddaughter to grow up around other kids. What they don't want is for their granddaughter to be placed in foster care if it takes longer than they hope for them to sell their house. I don't think that's unreasonable. The HOA should cut them some slack.
