“Venezuela may nationalize hospitals”
Tue, 03 Apr 2007 06:44:18

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Monday that he would take over private hospitals if they keep on increasing prices for health care.

“Any private hospital that doesn’t comply with the regulations that are made, if necessary, will have to be nationalized,” Chavez said during a speech at the presidential palace. “We cannot allow there to be a shameless looting using such important services as health.”

A state takeover of some private hospitals would enlarge Chavez’s nationalization effort, which already includes electrical companies, Venezuela’s largest telecom and lucrative oil projects in the Orinoco River basin.

Chavez called on Cabinet ministers to study possible price controls for medical services, the same way his government set price controls on beef, AP reported. “

“President Hugo Chávez’ event with his economic cabinet”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Chávez, speaking from the presidential palace of Miraflores, also advocated creation of a South American military organization “to defend the interests and sovereignty of this, our great homeland, including, of course, the Caribbean.” He insisted that “rather than a geographical concept, the South is an ideological concept for us, at this current time.”

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Falkland Islands War, Chávez commented that Venezuela had joined the countries requesting the United Kingdom to start discussions with Argentina on the islands sovereignty.”
