April 9, 2007 issue - It looks as if Fred Thompson is getting ready to run for president. Friends of the former Tennessee senator turned actor (anonymous to protect their relationship) say he's increasingly tempted to enter the 2008 Republican primaries, fueled in part by new polls that show he's got a serious shot at the White House. A Gallup poll released last week found Thompson ranked No. 3 behind front runners Rudy Giuliani and John McCain with 12 percent support among Republicansall before he's even formally launched a campaign. Last week Thompson was spotted in Washington lunching with former Senate majority leader Bill Frist, who has publicly urged his longtime friend to run for president. On April 18, Frist and Tennessee Rep. Zach Wamp will host Thompson on Capitol Hill, where he'll meet with House and Senate members to discuss his possible candidacy. Wamp, who heads a draft-Thompson committee, told NEWSWEEK that so many lawmakers have expressed interest in the meeting that organizers had to reserve a bigger room and extend Thompson's visit from one hour to almost a full day. "I really believe he's in," Wamp says. "I think it's only a matter of him getting his personal affairs in order".

Ahem :)
..." Thompson's son Fred Jr. told reporters his dad is currently "looking to buy a place" in his home state..."
This post doesn't support Rudy. Why do you want Hillary to win?
LOL!
hat tip to Graymatter for bringing this brand new piece to our attention :)
I wish he would announce already!
RUN FRED RUN!
You are most welcome, SE Mom! I'm not one for thread starting. Have posted thousands of times here but only a handful of starters. Can't take the pressure! :)
:)
I have spent quite a bit of time researching and reading about the current GOP primary candidates.
I will vote for the nominee of the GOP.
The only candidate I will work for, raise money for and give my money to is Fred Thompson.
The line that will do Rudy in and you heard it hear first: "If Rudy cut and ran against Hillary the first time around, why give him another shot?"
SUPPORT FREDERALISM!!!
That's a great line.
I almost hated to post it, because I really don't hate Rudy, I just hope there is a better option.
"The ROCKY TOP Juggernaut" Revs-up......w/all due respect. :D

I don't think Fred has an ego big enough to be President.
Fred Thompson might be the conservative who can overcome the media's agenda with his name recognition.
Arkansas Ping
Same.
I cannot support Romney or McCain....and can only support Rudy reluctantly.
Thompson/Gilmore 08!
Fred gives conservatives hope. Great name recognition, decent experience, great likability and charisma. I wish he had more on the experience side especially as an executive, but there is a plus on being an outsider. Of course none of the Dems candidates can be considered experienced.
