US carrier deploys amid Iran tensions (Nimitz)
afp ^

Posted on 03/30/2007 9:27:27 AM PDT by maquiladora

Nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz will sail Monday to support US operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US Navy said, amid a spike in tensions over Iran's seizure of 15 British marines and sailors.

The Nimitz, and its battle group of destroyers and guided missile cruisers, will relieve the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which this week took part in war games exercises in the Gulf with another carrier, USS John S Stennis.

The new battle group will be in position by late-to-mid April, but there will be no overlap with the Eisenhower, and the number of US carriers in the area would stay at two, a navy official said on condition of anonymity.

i bet there are some nervous SAM radar operators sitting on the Iranian side of the border. 50 miles is not a lot of ground for an F-18 to cover in short order

Normal rotation, nothing more. My brother ( a tech working for the Government) recently flew to Guam and then on to the Stennis which was just arriving to the Gulf. He stayed on it for a few days to do what he does, did a catapult launch off of it and back to Guam for a few days on the beach. He has just returned. He thought of it as an exciting opportunity.

US carrier deploys with NYMEX at 66.44 and climbing.

While that is true, it's worth remembering that this was a sheduled deployment, known about since Nov 2006 - it's not a reaction to the 15 sailors/marines being captured.

But whether it will replace or stay on as a 3rd carrier group in the region remains to be seen.

The exchange is worse then a group of chicks.

But, this is the focal point and crude has been moving up on it (although gold and USTs haven't really followed suit).

I believe we have more fixed wing in place then people know. If this hostage thing drags out and the Brits don't respond, I think we will eventually.

I am sure that a statement like this whether true or not will relieve both the terrorist regime in Iran and the left wing liberal traitors into thinking that there is no Air and Naval War against the terrorist rulers in Tehran. They should not be so relieved…

"I'm sure the recent arrival of the French carrier is another coincidence."

No coincidence. How else would the French be able to warn the Iranians of armed aircraft being launched from US carriers?

I'm sure teh NY Times is working hard to find out what's going on....so they can tell the Iranies all about it.

Speaking of that, someone should keep an eye out on Senator Rockefeller. That traitorous SOB is probably itching to tell Ahmadinejad everything he knows.

I'm sure the recent arrival of the French carrier is another coincidence.

The French carrier relieved the Stennis and took over the role of supporting NATO over Afghanistan, allowing the Stennis to sail into the Persian Gulf to join the Eisenhower for unscheduled battle group exercises which were ordered 2 days after the UK forces were taken captive.

This is all open source by the way.

IMO it will be amazing the way the quality of life will improve in Iraq when Iran gets atacked and Iran brings their people home to fight.

Just a guess mind you.

Concur on the air assets, the rumor mill was abuzz with that info last month

I don't know if we would move on this (under the guise of retaliation for the 15 sailors) w/o the British OK, that could really sour relations with the UK, at a time when we don't exactly have a lot of friends left. That's not to say we wouldn't go in under different pretenses in the near future.

In regards to the traitors being in driving seats when it comes to the treasonous bill to cut and retreat form Iraq, as usual the pundits are wrong because they are delusional liberals and the knee jerk conservatives here on FR or outside FR simply are just that knee jerk conservatives who think doom and gloom all the time. The President does have somewhere from 70 to 100 billions dollars in the current Pentagon budget to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for another 3 to 6 months, the traitors in Congress cannot hold for another 3 to 6 months and hence they will be forced to pass a supplemental bill to fund the wars without at least the surrender clause in it and they may be also to clean it from the pork and bribes.

In regards to a war with Iran, it will be Air and Naval war, it will last 2 to 4 weeks and it will cost 30 to 50 billions dollars. After this war, the terrorist regime in Tehran will be greatly weakened and it will not pose a big danger on us, the Middle East, and in best case scenario they will be removed by their own people.

Something often overlooked is the tactical significance of 6 month scheduled carrier deployments. The enemy can never assume what the carrier's mission is but they will always fear it.

Right... but the end result is an extra carrier in the Gulf, and four carriers around mid-April.

How would you like to be a sailor on one of their ships?

The last time we went after their navy, 40% of their "fleet" was on the bottom in just a few hours.

You want to also check out the deployments of certain advanced capability air craft to Turkey. Of course, we promised that we wouldn’t use Turkey to stage any raids in Iraq, but to the best of my recollection, we never mentioned Iran.

i'd feel a lot better if I was on one of their small patrol or fast attack boats, b/c their destoryer and frigates will be on the bottom in short order no doubt
