From the Liver Cancer website:

There is no consensus regarding the optimal treatment of patients with liver tumors. This contributes to the pessimistic attitude that many have regarding the treatment of liver cancer. Aggressive treatment strategies can cure or significantly prolong the life of many patients with liver cancer.
The liver is a common site of metastases from a variety of organs such as lung, breast, colon and rectum. When liver metastases occur at the time of initial diagnosis of the primary tumor, they are described as synchronous. If detected after the initial diagnosis, they are described as metachronous. The liver is frequently involved since it receives blood from the abdominal organs via the portal vein. Malignant cells detach from the primary cancer, enter the bloodstream or lymphatic channels, travel to the liver, and grow independently. We do not understand the mechanism of how a tumor cell can leave the primary site and grow in specific organs. Potentially, the environment of the liver is suitable to the growth of certain tumor cells. Once a tumor begins to grow in the liver, it receives its blood supply from the hepatic artery.

He had cancer before and beat it or am I thinking of another?
As a matter of fact, I do know that. Certain members of the MSM are delighted with this development.
Amen, Wait4Truth. Amen.
And may I add, it's good to see you posting. You have been missed.
From what little I know -- I am no doctor -- cancer patients are rarely candidates for transplant, because as dogbyte12 mentions at post 102, the immounosuppressant drugs weaken an already weak immune system, and combined with radiation or chemo, it would be frankly a waste of a scarce donor organ.
Surgery might be possible; the liver is relatively homogenous, compared to other major organs, so it might be possible to remove a lobe of the liver and the cancer with it, if there aren't too many metastes elsewhere.
This is the diagnosis my mother got last May; hers was metastazied from colon cancer also; there is a new drug that is very successful that HEALTHY people can take that is suppose to be an excellent treatment and has great success.
Here's hoping Tony's otherwise good health will work for him this time.
This is so sad.
That sucks, just like with my dad. Colon cancer, operated and thought they had it all. Found in liver 2 years later, dead 3 years after that. It's not a good way to go.
As much as we need him, I hope he takes off to enjoy the rest of his life.
It's not liver cancer, it's colon cancer metastasized to his liver. Some cancers are worse than others but nothing's ever terminal all the time. There are new targeted therapies coming out, literally every day, that are having great success in some cancers.
I just heard Dr. Manny Alvarez on Fox News talking about Tony's diagnosis. He sounded more positive than I expected. It sounded like liver cancer that spreads from colon cancer is different than cancer that starts in the liver. He said it is not uncommon that when colon cancer metastizes it spreads to the liver. He said that because they have been monitoring him very often and that the lesion is small that should be treatable. They removed the lesion and will analyze the type of cells and then decide what type of chemo. He said they can deliver treatment right into the liver at the site of the lesion. He said it is very possible that Tony will again be in remission. I hope he is right. Prayers for Tony and his family
Prayers sent Tony!
