Fred Thompson Is No Ronald Reagan
The American Thinker ^ | March 26, 2007 | Steven M. Warshawsky

Posted on 03/26/2007 9:49:21 AM PDT by RepublicanPatriot

Yes, Thompson has portrayed strong executive leadership in his acting roles, but what reason do we have to believe that he will exhibit the same qualities in real life? Unlike Reagan, to whom he sometimes is compared, Thompson has never led a major labor organization, never served as governor, and never been considered one of the leaders of the conservative movement in this country.

Here's another one. I'm going to highlight this so people who just scan threads can see the truth here:

Giuliani and Abortion
Steven M. Warshawsky

Deroy Murdock has a piece on National Review Online today about former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's record on abortion.

Murdock -- who is a strong supporter of Giuliani for president in 2008 (as am I)

Just so everyone knows this is not some unbiased writer taking on fred thompson the candidate. It's a giuliani backer trying to take down rudy's biggest threat. And it looks like Warshawsky has drunk the koolaid and recites the mantra: "his is not the place to make the case for Giuliani in 2008, but I urge all Republicans and conservatives to consider whether they would rather have a President Giuliani, or a President Hillary."

Rudy supporters: The biggest producers of FUD in 2007!

Fred Thompson is waiting for the GOP to remember that

While he waits, the party is coalescing around the guy who is actually demonstrating his hunger for the nomination. Fred Thompson's belly and lackluster record in the senate show how big his work ethic is. He is a decent man, but not presidential fodder. Like Gingrich, he is hoping to fill a vacuum if one arises. That's not a leadership.

I would vote for him simply because he is not from NY or has ever made a lame attempt to represent NY.

I guess you don't get out much.

I think the most important think to consider about Thompson is that he's never done anything important like Al Gore has. I mean really! Al Gore killed manbearpig! Who was "half man, half bear, half pig."

I think on TV Thompson may have "killed" a man. If he were to kill a bear, a pig and maybe something like a cow Thompson would surpass Gore and then it would be fine if he ran for president.

Even if Thompson does not kill manbearpigcow as I suggest above he still has a lot going for him. His name is the same as a machine gun and it's been suggested that he run with a guy named "Hunter". As you can clearly see, the ticket would be "Thompson-Hunter" but you could also say "Hunter Thompson" and since Johnny Depp played Hunter Thompson in a movie then that makes Fred hip and cool because Johnny Depp is hip and cool.

Fred Thompson may be "no Ronald Reagan" but if people start to think of him as if he was Johnny Depp holding a machine gun after killing manbearpigcow then how could he lose?

but there seems to be a good chunk of freepers who are willing to overlook that just to ride the perception that its anybody BUT Hillary.

I think it's even more than that.

I think Rudy draws two groups of pubbies - the remnants of the Rockefeller Republicans who never liked having to form an alliance with the Red State rubes, and the authoritarian republican types who have little understanding of the importance of the Bill of Rights - who see government's job as protecting the citizenry, instead of the citzenry having a role in protecting itself from criminals AND government when it oversteps.

Throw in a cult of personality mindset, and you have the Rudy boosters.

And she still has her "private copies" of the illegally-obtained FBI files to intimidate likely opponents...

Fred Thompson's belly and lackluster record in the senate show how big his work ethic is.

You're being a true jerk now.

First of all, Fred put himself through college and worked long and hard to get to where he is today.

Second, we have TOO MANY BUSYBODIES trying to make a record for themselves in the Senate. Fred's record is distinguished by his restraint, not his activism - and his lifetime ratings by various CONSERVATIVE groups bears that out.

Compare that to Rudy, who was QUITE activist - at taking guns away.

So any great leader HAS to follow some cookie cutter master plan for his life?

What a crock.

I think it's the way he speaks too, says too many words, not enough substance. But then again I'm not going to vote for him anyway.

No one will be elected POTUS by just looking good. Fred will have to prove himself to get support of serious voters.

Interesting article by John LeBoutillier in today's newsmax about Rudy. He sounds like another version of the she-devil.

and that never ceases to amaze me. they consider themselves to be savvy, yet won't acknowledge that if we are not energized and enthused about our candidate there will NOT be people out there pounding the pavement and coughing up cash, both of which are essential. a reluctant pull of the lever for rudy in response to being bludgeoned with the fear of hillary will NOT win this election. Fred Thompson has energized those who were just depressed and morose about being stuck with rudy. now the rudyfans fear is palpable. what will they say when he is no longer the only candidate who is electable?

"Reagan quit his day job in 1976 after losing the nomination to Ford, and campaigned relentlessly for four years, educating the public on the value of conservatism and refusing to give in. Contrast that with Thompson."

How is it bad not to crave power like a drug?

If you want a relentless campaigner, go for Romney.
But I would welcome Thompson in the race.

Has Thompson spent decades deep thinking conservative ideals, as did Reagan (See "In His own Hand), preparing him to lead? NO! So don't make me laugh by comparing the two.
