I'll vote for Rudy or Fred against any Democrat running for president. I'd prefer Fred, but Rudy is twice as conservative as any Democrat in the field.

Thompson seems to have some Will Rogers and Mark Twain in him. Reagan doesn't come to mind.

There you go!!!! Not a 'new Reagan', but someone with that down-home, folksy charm. FDT is NOT afraid to say what is on his mund, and his ability to speak means he can tell the Defeatocrats to 'go to hell' in a way they will enjoy the trip.

As one of the original "Reagan Democrats" (read my FR profile) I liked Reagan from the get-go. There was something about his honesty and character and his ability to communicate. Fred may not be Reagan - but I get that same warm feeling inside when I listen to him.

Believe you me, Thompson is not hanging around, waiting. If he is at all interested in a campaign, he is rounding up campaign workers, feeling out donors, conducting issues research, etc. He is also performing cost-benefit and feasibility analyses of every aspect of running.

It's a shame, how many freepers are too lazy to research Fred Thompson's well-documented history and verify his solidly conservative positions. Me, I'm too lazy to keep providing links, and fortunately there are many here who never get tired of doing that.
So you folks who say you don't know enough, or Fred's just some actor, or he's a blank screen: YOU are the blank screen! Read the links provided, search the Thompson threads, and educate yourselves.
Fred's the real deal. A genuine, lifelong conservative, a man of intellect, integrity and principle.
I didn't know that a month ago, but it wasn't hard to find out.

Quite a few early vocal supporters of Mayor Giuliani have quietly switched their support to Thompson, as well.

And there's not a darn thing wrong with that! I note the number of posters who have a reference to one candidate in their tagline, but are speaking affirmatively of another. This is as it should be.

The unfortunate thing is those who are so readily burning their bridges (sometimes while they're still on them!)

I think Rudy draws two groups of pubbies - the remnants of the Rockefeller Republicans who never liked having to form an alliance with the Red State rubes, and the authoritarian republican types who have little understanding of the importance of the Bill of Rights - who see government's job as protecting the citizenry, instead of the citzenry having a role in protecting itself from criminals AND government when it oversteps.
