After what Edwards did to the medical profession in North Carolina, I don't understand how any DR would risk treating a member of his family...

1. No treatments without signed waivers of litigation, and

2. 100% co-pays, paid when services are rendered. From past experience, attorneys are notorious at being slow payers.

Seems there is some serious denial going on here. Jetting around campaigning and chemotherapy aren't exactly compatible activities.

Actually, this story has gotten too much attention and the MSM has been carrying on about it for days.

Sorry for Ms. Edwards, but something bothers me about the incessant rattling on about it.

I agree. In observing people with cancer who undergo conventional medical treatment, very few are able to continue their normal lives uninterrupted, let alone take on something all-consuming like a presidential campaign. It's great they are optimistic and want to embrace life, and I commend them for that, but I think they'd give her a better chance of survival if they would concentrate on her recovery and their family during this time. But these kinds of decisions are personal ones, and I wish them all the best. But I absolutely don't want John Edwards as my president! I hate to see them go through all this, risking her health, when he's not going to end up president anyway.

I agree. Nothing else should matter. At this point personal ambition is meaningless. Time spent & enjoyed together before it becomes physically unbearable (and it will) should be the focus right now.

Will keep you & your family in prayer. God bless.

I got so angry when I watched this interview.

The notion that this jackass is "selfless" and just "trying to serve the USA" is a joke.

He's an ambitious, power-hungry man.

Golly Gosh Katie must have been terrific!

We should all watch the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric because she is THAT good. Really she is.

My wife is a cancer survivor, so I have had some experience. I would not at all be surprised if he drops out in a week or so. Anger first, then denial; reality will come soon. As you, I don't want Edwards for President and don't think he can win, but I can certainly empathize with their plight.

The acquisition of power comes before everything. At lease Elizabeth is capable of making her own decisions and if she wants to aid him in his quest, it's ok with me but the kids are an entirely different matter.

Both mommy and daddy should be home with those kids every day possible unless the kids are traveling with them.

IF they DIDN'T run for the Presidency, what else would they do?? They have nothing to go back to except politics....nothing. I doubt if running that Wade Edwards Foundation, whatever that is, would take up very much time.....so they go out and get other people's money and enjoy the adoration. Good Gig, actually.

Would else would they do? A kindergardener and a first grader, that's what. Six and eight years old.

I know.....but they LOVE the adoration that people on the campaign trail give them. I don't understand it either, but it's addictive!

Is he supposed to drop out of life and sit around waiting for his wife to die?

Dear derllak,

That *is* what life is about. Caring for the sick is life itself. As is raising the children.

"I hear what they said about John wanting to serve his country, but I think serving his family should be first at this time." Perhaps they are trying to put on a brave front for the kids by keeping things business as usual. But to frame this as him needing to continue as a service to his country is misguided, if not arrogant. Even by liberal standards, there are any number of people who could serve our country in that capacity. There is only one person who can serve as the kids' mom and only one person who can serve as their dad. There will be plenty of other opportunities for Edwards to serve his country -- right now, these kids need their mom.
