Iran may charge Brits as spies (indictments possibly coming)
Sunday Times via The Australian ^ | March 26, 2007 | Correspondents in New York and London

Posted on 03/25/2007 9:27:43 AM PDT by jdm

FIFTEEN British sailors and marines arrested by Iran off the coast of Iraq could be charged with spying and held until the US releases five Iranian Revolutionary Guards seized by US forces in Iraq earlier this year.

Reports yesterday said a website run by associates of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had reported that the arrested Britons would be put before a court and indicted.

Referring to them as "insurgents", the site said: "If it is proven that they deliberately entered Iranian territory, they will be charged with espionage. If that is proven, they can expect a very serious penalty since, according to Iranian law, espionage is one of the most serious offences."

I doubt Iran has the balls.

If they do, Britain will do nothing.

That is what everybody has done with every international incident in the last couple years, so I doubt that will change. Capitulation is the name of the game.

The rules of engagement, as confirmed by Commodore Lambert in an interview with the BBC, did not allow a response to the incident. Paraphrasing, he said the the crews acted in a professional manner and followed the ROE properly. The HMS Cornwall had a gunship up during the entire boarding operation and Iranian capture of the Brits. The helo also identified the Iranian patrol boats as they were leaving port and moving at a heading directly toward to boarded freighter. The on-board inspection was complete and the Brits were heading back to the Cornwall when they were captured.

As I understand it the US has different ROE's on the high seas in response to such an incident. I believe we are allowed to respond, even in peacetime, to an eminent threat to protect our assets and personnel. I am not entirely sure of that, but perhaps some of our JAG friends here at FR can clearify that point.

ROE's are established by national command structures, which can vary by country, even when multiple countries are part of a coalition, as is the interdiction operation in the Persian Gulf.

Whether or not the Brits could have stopped the taking of the Sailors/Marines by the Iranians is an open question.

True and we'll possibly never know. The only way to test the answer is for them to have acted in the first place. I wonder if the Brits will now change their ROE?

My daughter spillt Coke all over my Compaq keyboard about ten years ago. I found that if I carefully disassembled it and wiped all the contacts, let it air dry for two days and reassembled it, I could get a new keyboard a Computer City for $10 bucks.

The Iranian President needs a war to stay in power. Most Iranians want him out.

Well, if it's going to happen within a generation, it better hurry up. Actually, now that I come to think about it, a biblical generation could be forty years since that's how long the Lord made the Israelites wander in the desert.

That depends heavily on which interpretation of the prophecy in matthew you prefer. The wording used also suggests that when Christ was talking about 'this generation' that the word generation can just as easily mean a tribe, people, or nation. Taken that way, all the prophecy says is that once Israel is a nation again, it will not be defeated before the Second Coming.

I don't claim to know the answer one way or another. I do know that if Ahmanutjob keeps screwing around he's eventually going to get some smackdown: Yahweh style.

Ahem, what were Iranian Revolutionary Guards doing in Iraq in the first place? I know, doing the jobs that no Iraqis would do, right?

I dont believe that.
Some people symbolicly say the seven hills are symbolic of Rome..BUT. Please read..seven hills are seven kingdoms, five have fallen, one is, and one is to come. One must remember that this was in Johns time so. The five that have fallen are, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, The Medo-Persian, and the Greek. The one that is, is Rome, and there is the one that is to come.
The Harlot is a religion. John was taken in spirit to the DESERT. She was titled as; Mystery, Babylon the Great. The mother of Prostitutes and of the abominations of the Earth. She sits on many waters (often the symbol of water and sea means peoples in the scripture).
Now for the Beast. It reads that "The beast who ONCE WAS, and now IS NOT, is an eighth king. He BELONGS to the seven and is going to his destruction.
So the Beast, will come from one of those five former kingdoms (since in Johns time he had already been-Read ONCE WAS and now is NOT above). I believe he will be a Greek or of Greek heritage and will gain his power in the Asyrian-Persian-Babylon area. Why? Because Alexander the Great was one of the most destructive and terrible conquerers in history. It also describes the beast as like a leoperd, lion and bear. Symbols of which of those kingdoms.

Sorry to bore you but...

The Brits should charge Iran.

If the Brits won't do it, we should.

"There is a very mainstream understanding of end-times events as described in the Bible: Within a generation of the Jews regaining control of Jerusalem (June 1967), what is now Iran and what is now Syria will launch a major offensive against Israel, triggering the mother of all wars. Interestingly, not only these countries will side against Israel - but ALL the countries of the earth."

Some consider the reformation of Israel as a country in 1948 as the 'last generation before the end'. Either way, it certainly appears the actors are taking the stage. I am a little cautious about what countries attack. If your referring to Ezekial 38 for example, it does say Russia consider that Russia supplied weaponry and nuclear technology. Bad enough but big difference between a direct assault and assistance.

Actually, Ezekial 38 prophecies about a regional war in the end times that involves Gog & Megog and the bands of Put, Tubal (couple others, dont have bible handy) which on a map is Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Sudan, Russia and I think Egypt.

Revelations talks about the beast of 10 nations which also seems to include Russia (mentioned as feet of a bear) that unite to destroy the harlot sitting on top of her. The harlot is surrounded by seven hills and is drunk from the wine of her fornication by doing business with kings of the earth. These 10 nations lend their power to the beast for one hour and destroy the harlot, then the beast itself goes off into destruction. I used to think this was America, but actually this is speaking or Rome, whom sits on seven hills. The priests dress in robes of purple and scarlet. Rome has committed fornication with the kings of the earth for over a millenia. Rome as a moral Catholic nation will oppose the beast who wants to install a godless society of people that belong to the state instead of family values and God (the antichrist). America is either barely mentioned at all or is simply talked about in the beginning of Revelations in reference to Israel, in how the dragon disgorges water out of her mouth to destroy the infant country, but is protected by the wings of the eagle for times and half a time.

The point of prophecy and end times? It's the end of a self-centered civilization. The good guys win the war with 3 billion dead and 200 million total combatants. As Christ put it, it's birth pangs of distress then the end. Think of a women giving birth. Painful labor pains slowly then more rapidly and a huge dose of pain -WHAM! Then out comes a beautiful new baby and healing process.

I can't even read the BBC posting board anymore. At one time it was interesting. Now the people are almost treasonous, not unlike our American Left.

The debate over Iraq and the reasoning and heat Bush/Blair received was probably fair - at least those of us who felt they should have done far more research prior to going in. The management of the affairs on the ground haven't been stellar, but consider the lack of research...

However, seeing the British people themselves act like the Royal Navy or America "gets what it deserves" in regards to Iran is absolutley beyond reality. Iran has pissed in the USA's face for 30 years and we haven't lifted a finger in retaliation. How many Iranians have we abducted and murdered? The USA has 652 direct cases of murder of US Diplomats, Servicemen and Cilivilans by Iran. We can't truly count the death toll of USA or British troops from IDE's provided by Iran blowing our soldiers to bits, but the estimate is 700 U.S. and 200 British.

Iran is threatening to 'wipe Israel off the map' says the USA will not be here soon, is building nukes, defying the international community and outright states he is the next anti-christ ready to start the apocalype and the next holocaust. You friggin British retards. Hope the sane lot left of you can slap the others into awakening before its too late!

Are there any men left at 10 Downing Street? Thatcher would have already had a naval blockade.

Maybe that is the "different phase" Tony Blair is thinking of.
