The only racism I've ever seen in Hawaii is AGAINST white people. And I don't know how hard Obama had to scour to find a white-dominated high school, but as an FYI, there aren't many places where they are the majority.

I was in Hawaii about this same time as Obama attending U. of Hawaii. I remember the same thing. There was a slang word for whites and one for the Hawaiians and other islanders. Never heard one for Blacks. Many of the islanders preferred Blacks to Whites. I didn't see that much racism, but what was there sure didn't seem directed at the Blacks, but at Whites. Tourism is a big part of their economy so it wasn't made obvious to the tourists.
