This is another earthquake, different and larger than the quake off of Honshu, Japan.
More information on the way...
I like that USGS site better than the IRIS one. It's now been replaced in my 'favorites.' Thanx

Everything here but the moose and his sister :')
Any word? That's a big enough thump to generate tsunamis, and quite big enough for even the most jaded Californian.
Prayers for your friend.
I like cheese. Does that count or is it too hugh?
I don't see anything about the 2nd quake and aftershock
Go take a shower:')
Ok (dusting my hands) I think they have all been posted. Now back to earth quakes:')
If you had seen the T storm that rolled through here this evening, you'd say I don't need one. We had a real gully washer.

There is even a 3.1 quake in KANSAS....
Quake of that size generally doesn't generate a damaging tsunami unless there's been an offshore landslide - and even then the tsunami is local.
It is when there's an earthquake...
Take care. It may not be over. I see some bad stuff on TWC going across.
*groan*
New Madrid, MO had the greatest earthquake in recorded American history in 1811. Church bells in Boston were said to have been shaken enough to ring by themselves.
*grumble*
Well, the prayer still stands...
Thanks for the info, johnie.
I remember reading about that earthquake. They believe it was so powerful it altered the course of the Mississippi River.
I know the New Madrid zone is still active, and officials often issue reminders about being prepared throughout MO, IL, AR, KY, and TN--all areas that would be gravely affected by a strong quake.
Heartfelt prayers that your friend and all the other people there are safe.
