(AP) "The pet food linked to the deaths of 16 animals has shown no signs of contamination, the manufacturer says, and the company cannot explain why some of the cats and dog that ate it developed acute kidney failure and died."

Disgruntled employee.
What would it take for a worker with an attitude toward his employer to pour some deadly posion into a batch or two of food?
Just asking....
NOW they tell me it's the gravy itself?
"I hope they get to the bottom of it. I don't use the brands I saw on the list, but a few minutes ago I went out to the patio, and there it was - kitty puke."
Cats and dogs puke all the time, especially if they've been eating grass. I've noticed cats tend to be more sensitive to changes in food and I've also noticed that my cat tends to puke up the beef food more often. It seems to be the heavily dyed brands in heavy gravy more often than not.
"I lost my Jack Russell terrier in August of last year. He was 14, so we assumed it something brought on by old age. But I had been feeding him "slices in gravy" dog food, and suddenly he just quit eating. He had been healthy as could be."
We just adopted a Jack Russell. It's like releasing a herd of Ferrets in your house but he's a sweetheart, although my cat doesn't think so.
No matter what the advertisements say I don't think they take a lot of care when making pet food. I'm kind of reminded of the "bunker feed" they give cattle.
I feel safer with Gravy Train, it makes it's own gravy.
Our cats would probably love your house. We give 'em dry food. Now, of course, we're glad.
Yeah, my JR was a bundle of energy. He and I spent many an afternoon in the back yard with me throwing a frisbee and him catching. He seemed to never wear out. I miss him.
16 deaths out of how many million pets that ate the food? It sounds to me they are running scared from the Legion of Lawyers.
My girlfriend says that wet food enhances or promotes a better, shinier coat.
What would it take for a worker with an attitude toward his employer to pour some deadly poison into a batch or two of food?
Not a very good poisoner if only 16 pets died out of the possibly millions that ate the suspect food.
We just bought Eukanuba for the first time recently for our grandchildren (the cats), but they don't seem to like it as much as Purina. I'm from a very frugal family and buying animals, beloved as they are, expensive food is just difficult for me. My mom used to give her dog Brewer's Yeast which she said helped her coat. She mixed it in her food.
And, that's only from people who read or listen to news.
We all know there's a lot of un-informed people out there.
What a coincidence, I eat the same way!
To answer the question though, the kitty puke was puddled.
How often do you cook up a mess of that, and what quantities do you use, more or less? I would love to make Salty less odoriferous.
Our "Betty Boop" can cause complete evacuation of the dwelling too. You can tell when it is coming. If she is sleeping and snoring like she normally does, she will switch to snorting and will stir around before the blast.
We generally use about 3lbs of whole pork shoulder, which you can find for $.99/lb if you watch for it. We boil it to get most of the fat out. We cook a cup of rice, or a cup of barley or 1/2 lb of pasta for the starch. We get 5-6 cans of canned veggies; mix of peas, lima beans, carrots and green beans. We run it all through the Kitchen Aid using the meat grinder attachment, add ~7 days worth of vitamin paste and mix it all together. Depending on your dogs appetite, this will make 10-14 days supply. We keep half in the fridge and freeze half for the second week. Your looking at $8-9 for 14 days of food. The dog loves it and rarely ever breaks wind anymore.
I don't remember now if it has been stressed that it was the gravy concoctions, but you are probably right.
Pretty much a splitting image of our Betty. I think she weighs 13-14 pounds. Her white boots in the back are a little higher than this guys. Best all around companion dog we ever had aside from occasional potty accidents..
You could chop the meat up by hand or use whole ground pork, mash the vegetables with a potato masher and leave the rice whole. Hope this cures your little stinker!
There's already one lawsuit in process that I know of.
I was talking to hubby last night about this. As much as we love our dogs, I couldn't sue them over this unless it was proven they knew about the problem and sold the stuff anyway.
A wicked heart. It's one thing for a disgruntled employee to mess up computer systems. It's a whole other thing to do something that would kill an untold number of beloved family pets. Takes a special kind of evilness. (Not that it doesn't exist in this world.)
