My father refers to our Boston, Salty, as the Methane Marauder. That dog can clear the entire house.

How often do you cook up a mess of that, and what quantities do you use, more or less? I would love to make Salty less odoriferous.

Our "Betty Boop" can cause complete evacuation of the dwelling too. You can tell when it is coming. If she is sleeping and snoring like she normally does, she will switch to snorting and will stir around before the blast.

We generally use about 3lbs of whole pork shoulder, which you can find for $.99/lb if you watch for it. We boil it to get most of the fat out. We cook a cup of rice, or a cup of barley or 1/2 lb of pasta for the starch. We get 5-6 cans of canned veggies; mix of peas, lima beans, carrots and green beans. We run it all through the Kitchen Aid using the meat grinder attachment, add ~7 days worth of vitamin paste and mix it all together. Depending on your dogs appetite, this will make 10-14 days supply. We keep half in the fridge and freeze half for the second week. Your looking at $8-9 for 14 days of food. The dog loves it and rarely ever breaks wind anymore.

Xena's Guy and I thank you! I plan to give this a try, if our aged Cuisinart is up to mashin' all that.

If you can find a rabbitry in your area they will often let you have the culls for $.50 to $1.00/pound and the whole rabbit is edible by dogs. Rabbit has a much higher protein concentration than any other meats, and dogs just naturally love it. Check 4H, FFA and farm bureaus in your area, they often have info on rabbit breeders.
