Limbaugh Responds: Schwarzenegger A Sellout
LA Times ^ | 3/20/07 | Robert Salladay

Posted on 03/20/2007 6:29:07 PM PDT by NormsRevenge

Rush Limbaugh responded this morning to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who called the talk show host "irrelevant" and said he wasn't Limbaugh's servant. Or rather, Schwarzenegger called Limbaugh's political views irrelevant.

The two men, as Limbaugh pointed out, have shared cigars and the Republican governor generally has been diplomatic about occasional barbs from the nationally syndicated talk show host. (The governor dodged attacking Limbaugh during a recent "Face the Nation" appearance, when he was asked an identical question about conservative critics.)

Toward the end of his remarks, Limbaugh said Schwarzenegger "is a sellout, and I'm seeing way too many Republicans do it. ... I don't know what happened to Arnold. I--I don't--he may--obviously didn't have the leadership skills to articulate conservative principles and win over the public as Reagan did." Read the full transcript after the jump.

Rush Limbaugh, speaking about Schwarzenegger's interview with NBC:

LIMBAUGH: They (NBC) throw something up Arnold, and I have said recently, and it happened today. And he called me irrelevant. He said he's not my servant. And I don't know how it is I can be irrelevant when every time he shows up on the 'Today' show' they ask him about me. I'm just sure he's sick and tired of hearing about it, he's sick and tired of getting the questions.

Rush is an entertainer, but a great conservative mind, also.

Rush was the first talk show host to realize more people would listen and absorb the message if it was entertaining. Many of the current network of talk show hosts, conservative or liberal, still don't have a clue about how to grow their listenership.

Same thing is true of political candidates. Too few conservatives seem to be aware the amusing sound bite gets much more attention from the MSM than serious ones.

If Republicans and Conservatives are not "one in the same"...what are conservatives doing fraternizing with Republicans? Or conversely stated, if the only acceptable way to be a Republican is to be conservative to the nth degree, where do you go if your views are less than the nth degree conservative? Rush is the greatest. Everyone knows this. Some are too jealous to admit it.

Wake up you idiots. Rush didn't say Arnold was not a Republican, in fact he said he WAS a Republican but that he wasn't a conservative.

You are totally right. I just read the transcript on Rush's site. Rush comes off very well in this transript. He makes a point about Arnold trying to score points by distancing himself from Rush.

Rush's counterpoint, that Arnold is someone who ran as a "Conservative" and due to an inability to articulate a appealing conservative message, sold out is right on target. Arnold is a sell out.

Regards.

he says that Arnold is a nominal Republican. Relax: the Party is not like a church. Arnold is just a typical politician: he will says what he needs to get re"elected.

Thankfully wiser minds prevailed in California. The luddite attitude is what put us out of office for ten years in California; we finally got a guy who cut the car tax, has raised our bond rating, reduced state debt, and all this army of do-nothing, complain-constantly luddites can do is heap on criticism.

Interesting that Rush gains applause in 2007 for making the distinction between conservative and republican.

And, proudofthesouth -- I didn't vote for Ted Kennedy's nephew-in-law either.

Gov. Schwarzenegger ran for office as a conservative after the recall of--of the dry and dull Gray Davis.

The media comes at Schwarzenegger with "Rush says you're not Republican." Ahnold attacks Rush when Rush never said it. Then Rush attacks Ahnold with the laughable charge that Ahnold fooled conservatives. Classic divide and conquer move by the MSM.

Ahnold has always been a popularity whore for the MSM. Rush should know better than to play their games.

Rush is a conservative and espouses conservative principles and not Liberal Republican causes. He has always spoken out and critized the RINO element.

Rush has more common sense and educates the public about the issues better than you have.

Schwarzenegger is a sellout, but not much was really expected from him.

Really? What was this?
"Let me tell you what being a conservative means to me. I'm a conservative because I believe communism is evil and free enterprise is good. I'm a conservative because Milton Friedman is right and Karl Marx is wrong. I'm a conservative because I believe government serves the people, the people don't serve the government. I'm a conservative because I believe in a balanced budget, not budget deficits. I'm a conservative because I believe money that people earn is their money and not the government's money. And when you look at the drivers' license outrage, I am a conservative because I believe in the rules of the law, not political pandering."
--Arnold Schwarzenegger, California GOP Convention, September 2003

It was politicing for politics sake. He has since leaned left. I am a citizen of California. I've watched him compromise and cower within the CA Democrat controlled legislature. Ahnold has turned into the commusumate politician that we all abhor. He is becoming Davis II.

"Had Schwarzenegger not run, we had the chance at a conservative. Had McClintock not won, we would have still had Gray Davis, not Bustamante. In retrospect, Schwarzenegger has done more damage than Gray Davis could have ever accomplished in advancing the liberal agenda."

Yup. Other than a repeal of DMV fees, Annnold has done little but appease the CA legislature. He's even stated his support for socialized medicine. Time for another a##-kicking, and vote him out, also?

Won't happen...but I can dream...

'Rush is a conservative and espouses conservative principles and not Liberal Republican causes. He has always spoken out and critized the RINO element.'

Dead wrong. I believe Rush came out after the 06' election saying he was tired of carrying the water. Kinda implying that he has been supporting things he does not believe in.

Other than a repeal of DMV fees,

How sad for you if that was your only point of respect for the Austrian.

Schwarzenegger didn't repeal VLF fees. He simply reinstated a General Fund subsidy of the fees. Taxpayers still pay the fees through their General Fund obligations. The only California residents who benefited from Schwarzenegger's shenanigan are those who don't pay state income, sales or valued added taxes.

Rush always said he would hold Repubs feet to the fire when they were in power. I didn't hear him saying much when W was spending money like he hates the stuff.
